Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is all set to make his Marvel debut in the Wonder Man series. One of the oldest characters of Marvel, Wonder Man is all set to make his appearance on the TV screens, however, the series would not be part of the usual Marvel Cinematic Universe as it would be under Marvel’s new Spotlight banner.
Set up just days ago for upcoming Marvel projects that would be independent of the MCU mythos, it is also the studio’s attempt at showcasing darker and edgier projects. Wonder Man being under this banner, hence, lists the possibility that the series might be R-rated. However, countless fans seem to be unimpressed by the update.

Marvel Studios recently announced the set up of Marvel Spotlight, a new banner for certain upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects that can be treated as standalone. While all projects would be under the MCU canon, they won’t be crossovers or feature references to the usual mythos, allowing fans to watch them without prior knowledge of all the different Marvel phases.
Furthermore, Spotlight would also allow the studio to pursue more edgy, dark, and risky projects particularly those which might be R-rated. With the recent announcement of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II‘s Wonder Man being developed under the new banner, as reported by Deadline, the series might be R-rated.
Being developed by Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director, Destin Daniel Cretton the series is expected to start shooting after Thanksgiving. While nothing much has been revealed about the upcoming series, it seems the possible R-rated update has not been exciting enough for Marvel fans, many of whom have been demanding for it to be canceled.

They should cancel this, they need to push pause on adding anymore heroes. Too much going on in the MCU and they haven’t even addressed anything outside of Kang and even that’s up in the air.

With so much negativity going on and negative fan reactions, it would be interesting to see how Marvel’s new venture fares out for the studio.
The release date for Wonder Man hasn’t been announced yet but it is expected to be released on Disney+.
