Marvel has been making a lot of mistakes these past few years; mistakes that have significantly impacted their image in the world of superheroes. However, much like Tony Stark, the one thing the franchise has always been good at is learning from the past.

Recently, there were speculations that Captain America: Brave New World was making a very big mistake with its story; something that also happened in 2007 with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 3.

It would seem, however, that the Captain America film is learning from the faults of Marvel’s past. Recent reports have suggested that the film will begin reshoots in some time which will cut out a huge chunk of the film. While many might be alarmed by these changes, it may be exactly what the film needs.

History Almost Repeated

Spider-Man 3 had a very big flaw. One that took over the film and could not be brushed past and ignored; there were far too many villains in it. Juggling between Venom and the Sandman, as well as a new version of the Green Goblin, who happens to be Spider-Man’s best friend, all the while Peter Parker is going through a personal crisis with an alien inside him.

Calling the plot overwhelming is an understatement. All of these plots and characters would have been iconic in their own right, however, trying to exist all in the same film did not give them time to shine.

Having too many antagonists in one film can make all of them feel less threatening, as well as make the film feel too full. It diverts the attention of the audience a little too much and to make them take all of them seriously, they take none. The same mistake was almost made in Anthony Mackie’s Captain America: Brave New World.

Captain America Saved Itself

There were a lot of reports about Captain America: Brave New World that the film was going to feature the Serpent Society, a business enterprise of criminals who have identities reminiscent of snakes. The group is one of the most iconic in the comics and has a vast number of great villains.

However, it would not have made sense for them to be first introduced in a film as an established entity, and have to potentially share the screen with the Red Hulk and the Leader. That would be the equivalent of the MCU starting with the Avengers, without taking its time to establish its characters, also adding the Fantastic Four and X-Men on the sidelines; it would not have worked.

The film would have brought, Diamondback, Constrictor, Rattler, Asp, and Cobra, from the team. All of these characters have some very interesting powers that needed their time in the spotlight.

Thankfully, there have been reports of reshoots for the movie by CanWeGetSomeToast, which will fix this mistake. It has been rumored that Marvel will be completely cutting out the Serpent Society plot from the film. Although at a glance it seems like a good step, there is no telling what the final outcome would turn out to be.
