Out of all the roles he has taken on to date, the one that most perfectly fits Chris Evans is that of Marvel’s fan-favorite superhero, Captain America. That being said, when his character passed on the iconic shield to the Falcon in Avengers: Endgame to carry on his legacy as Captain America, fans were utterly heartbroken and were looking for one way or another for him to return.
This desire to see him back even had rumors popping up about the upcoming fourth installment of the Captain America film series, Captain America: Brave New World, of Evans reprising his role. However, Chris Evans has given a very disappointing update while addressing all those rumors and reports about Captain America 4.
Chris Evans Gets Candid About His Captain America Return Rumors
Since the role of Captain America still ranks as the role that Chris Evans is best known for, it is only understandable that fans want him to return. For that, the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World could have been the perfect option.
However, it doesn’t seem the Gifted star wants to jump back in character anytime soon. At the C2E2 fan convention in Chicago (via Variety), Evans echoed similar thoughts when asked for his take on reprising his iconic superhero role.
Initially, he admitted that the role still meant a lot to him and that Steve Rogers most certainly has a lot more stories to tell, as he said:
“It’s tough, because look, I love that role deeply,” Evans said. “He means so much to me, and I really do. I think there’s more Steve Rogers stories tell, sure.”
At the same time, Chris Evans also listed some genuinely understandable reasons just why he couldn’t return to the role anytime soon. He said:
“But at the same time, I’m very, very precious with it… it’s like this little shiny thing that I have that I love so much, and I just don’t want to mess up in any way, and I was a part of something that was so special for the special period of time and in a way, it really landed so well.”
Concluding, the Captain America: The First Avenger star finally crushed all of the fans’ dreams of seeing him in Captain America: Brave New World in a heartbreaking way through one last statement about the role:
“As much as I’m connected to that role and love telling those stories and working with those people, it doesn’t quite feel right right now.”
Well, there you have it: Since seeing Chris Evans in any role related to Captain America seems the unlikeliest, for now, fans will have to pass Captain America 4 without watching him.
Every Lead Character in Captain America: Brave New World
Since Chris Evans’ flat-out “not returning anytime soon” response more or less states that Brave New World wouldn’t be seeing him return, here are all the other lead characters who are confirmed to appear in the 2025 scheduled movie.
This film would see Anthony Mackie continue to play Sam Wilson, aka the new Captain America, and would notably mark his big-screen debut in the role of the Captain. Then there’s Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, aka the side-kick Falcon.
Moreover, Harrison Ford will be debuting in the MCU as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Adding to these is the surprise return of Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, who just might be seen in his villainous alter-ego form.
Other characters include Israeli actress Shira Haas debuting as the Israeli superhero Sabra in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Xosha Roquemore has been reported as having joined the cast in a character yet to be known (via Deadline).
Captain America: Brave New World is set to hit the theatres on the 14th of February, 2025.
