Charlie Hunnam has been a renowned name in Hollywood for 26 years. Over the years, the actor has bewitched the audience with his versatility and ability to work in different genres. In his long and successful career, Hunnam has built an extensive resume in both films and TV Series, which has effortlessly established him as a Hollywood heavyweight.
Though the Crimson Peak actor has stayed as a relevant and renowned actor throughout his career, he has immense regret as he lost two significant roles, which, if he played, would have skyrocketed his fame. The roles offered to Charlie Hunnam were Green Arrow in DC and Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars.
Charlie Hunnam Shared How He Lost Two Iconic Roles
Charlie Hunnam is a versatile actor, who enjoys taking up different roles to showcase his acting range. While he decides very carefully on which role to play and which to reject, he loses two iconic roles. Hunnam decided to open up on his lost opportunities as he shared how he couldn’t be a part of two outstanding franchises.
The first role was of Oliver Queen/ Green Arrow in a live-action project. During an interview with ComicBook, the actor shared that he was the first choice for the role but he was not thrilled to play the role, hence rejected it.
“I never talked to Zack (Snyder) about it. Honestly, I don’t remember who. It was some people in suits, brought the idea to me and thought it would be terribly exciting for me to play Green Arrow and I did not share their enthusiasm. I don’t know who Green Arrow is so I don’t want to offend anyone. I looked at one picture and I was like, ‘I’m not sure green’s my color and I’m pretty sure spandex isn’t my material.’ Beyond that, I was like, one image, ‘Thanks, not interested.'”
In a different interview with Entertainment Tonight, Charlie Hunnam shared that he got the opportunity to meet George Lucas for the role of Anakin Skywalker in the prequel film series.
“I had forgotten that too, but yes, I did. I got to the point where I was meeting George Lucas, you know? I don’t think he meets a lot of actors. I think it was probably, maybe, two to three actors they were considering. I don’t remember much about it.”
Hunnam added that the creator was considering 2-3 actors for the iconic role, and he was one of them, while he didn’t remember much of their meeting, he remembered it was far from perfect, which made him realize he would not secure the role.
“I just remember it being a very awkward meeting and walking out and thinking, ‘Well, I’m definitely not [getting the] role.’ And I was correct. Sometimes it’s about the vibes.”
Charlie Hunnam was right as the role of Anakin Skywalker ultimately went to Hayden Christensen, who embodied the role and made it one of the most popular characters ever featured in the Star Wars franchise.
Charlie Hunnam Would Love To Have a Kai Spin-off
As Charlie Hunnam was recently featured in Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon as Kai, his portrayal of the character immediately became a fan favorite. The character’s fate is clear due to a fatal head injury, with Snyder confirming that Kai is done for.
However, during an exclusive interview with GQ, the Undeclared actor shared that he would be interested in a “Kai-centric spin-off.” The actor was asked if “we could see Kai outside of Part Two.” Hunnam replied,
“No, we haven’t. But I really loved Kai. I fell in love with him. And I had the best time just messing around, playing that character. So I’d be up for it.”
Looks like Charlie Hunnam has realized his mistake of not closing down any opportunity as it could become a fan favorite and part of a bigger picture.
Rebel Moon can be streamed on Netflix.
