The biopic Steve Jobs, directed by Danny Boyle and written by Aaron Sorkin, gave audiences a fascinating insight into the life of Apple’s iconic co-founder. While Michael Fassbender ultimately earned an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Jobs, the casting process for the lead role was far from straightforward.
Fassbender was not the first choice for the role. When the film was in its infancy, Christian Bale was the first actor seriously considered for the role of Steve Jobs. Known for his transformative performances and dedication to his craft, Bale seemed like a natural fit. But Bale dropped out, and it passed to Fassbender.
Christian Bale Was Considered for the Titular Role in Steve Jobs
Danny Boyle’s 2015 biopic on the life of Steve Jobs remains one of the best films in that category. Considering Christian Bale’s versatility as an actor, many believed that he would have been perfect for the role.
Bale was chosen to play the role of Steve Jobs, the visionary inventor who created Apple Inc. The film also starred Kate Winslet playing the role of Joanna Hoffman and Seth Rogen as co-founder Steve Wozniak. Bale was all set to play the character, but eventually, he decided to take his leave.
Meanwhile, Bale didn’t feel that he would perfectly fit for the role and thus walked away from the project.
As per THR‘s sources, Bale decided to withdraw after feeling like he was not the right fit for the part.
Another interesting fact about the film’s casting was that DiCaprio was also offered the role of Steve Jobs in the 2015 biopic, but the actor denied the opportunity to focus on The Revenant.
Michael Fassbender Was Clueless about Gadgets and Technology
Michael Fassbender is a fabulous actor with remarkable works on the big screen. The Irish-German star has starred in some of the best projects from Hollywood of all time, with his Magneto role in the X-Men movie saga being one of the standout performances to date.
Another movie for which he got praise was Steve Jobs, the enigmatic and visionary man behind Apple. Though Fassbender portrayed the role convincingly, in real life, he was never tech-savvy.
“There’s a lot of things about technology that would probably shock you, about my adeptness about dealing with technology,” Fassbender joked in an interview with Yahoo Movies. “I’m the worst person at it, so it was the perfect match for me to play him.”
Michael Fassbender might not resemble Steve Jobs, but it was his acting genius that led to the film’s success. The actor managed to do the most convincing portrayal of the Apple co-founder.
