The 2023 BAFTA winner recently spoke to Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz where he discussed a number of things. The conversation eventually got to Murphy’s face being inked on Bautista’s body.

“Thomas Shelby has been immortalized on the body of Dave Bautista and many of people”, said Horowitz to which Murphy replied “By accident, apparantly. That’s what he said”

“Do you still see tattoos of Thomas Shelby every once in a while”, “Yep”, replied Murphy. “It’s quite something you know, that’s quite a level of, uh, I don’t know, zeitgeistism, whatever the word is. But I have seen some amazing tattoos, like really really cool ones. I’m always very impressed and honoured”, Murphy answered upon being asked how does it feel on people having his tattoo

Upon being asked if he would ever have someone’s tattoo on his body, he answered “probably a musician, but don’t ask me who”.

The former WWE World Champion had thought of having a tattoo inspired by Peaky Blinders’ Thomas Shelby. However, he did not want to make it very obvious that it was Murphy, thus he asked his artist to avoid inking down the on-screen Shelby. However, after the resemblance could not be ignored, Bautista felt a bit embarrassed, as he revealed in an interview with GQ.

“I found this cool picture, it was Cillian Murphy from Peaky Blinders, and I asked John to alter it so it didn’t look so much like Cillian Murphy. And I got it and I thought, ‘Okay, that doesn’t look exactly like I have a tattoo of Cillian Murphy on my thigh.’ But the first time I posted it on my social media, all I got was, ‘Oh my God. You’ve got a tattoo of Cillian Murphy. Well, yeah I guess I do. It is what it is. I’m a fan so, you know, a little embarrassed but not ashamed. So Cillian, there you go. Your face is tattooed on my thigh.” – Dave Bautista speaking to the GQ

All in all, Bautista is not ashamed of his tattoo and now feels it like a tribute to the cinema’s father of the atomic bomb.
