Denis Villeneuve has a uniqueness to all the projects that he is a part of. Having mastered the art of filmmaking and storytelling, he has a certain way with his craft that has created a signature of its own. The filmmaking, throughout all of his projects, possesses a distinctive style, which stays consistent through movies like Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, Sicario, and Prisoners. It has also graced his recently released, beloved franchise, Dune.
With the release of the second part of this classic book just around the corner, fans have received some horrible news surrounding the filmmaker and his future with the franchise. Villeneuve may not be a part of this series for as long as people might want.
Dune Messiah Will Be The End Of Denis Villeneuve’s Time With The Franchise
Denis Villeneuve recently gave an interview with Time Magazine for the promotion of his upcoming film, Dune: Part Two, which is releasing on the 1st of March 2014. He went into great detail about what can be expected from the film, as well as what will follow this highly anticipated sequel. The first film, released in 2021, turned into a cultural phenomenon, much like the source material. So much so, that it was adored by its audiences and made a total of $400 million on a budget of $165 million.
“Dune Messiah should be the last Dune movie for me,” Villeneuve confirms.
It can also be expected that the second part of this film will also lead to similar results, with fans being almost as, if not more excited than their first time around with the franchise. Villeneuve stated that if the success of Dune 2 allows a third film to go into production, it will be his last film in the franchise. The filmmaker seems to not be all too interested in being a part of the rest of the films that may follow.
Denis Villeneuve’s Inevitable Exit Upsets Fans
As soon as news of Denis Villeneuve’s inevitable exit from the Dune franchise hit the internet, the general feeling of fans is their melancholy on losing a filmmaker who is, perhaps, perfect for the franchise. Many were talking about how the question of whether a Dune 3 will be greenlit does not require much thought, with the second part being one of the most anticipated films of 2024.

Some were upset at the loss, while others hoped for a perfect trilogy. Fans would absolutely love to see this story continue by Villeneuve, who is a known mastermind.
