The icing on the cake was his historic win after an 11-year hiatus. But WWE buffs were concerned with footage that showed the possibility of The Rock suffering an injury, which was a reminder of a serious one he had during his confrontation with John Cena in WrestleMania 29.
Fans Are Worried That Dwayne Johnson Injured Himself On His Big WrestleMania Return
WrestleMania 40 is underway in Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia and is bringing in many excited fans to see their favorite stars fight inside the ring. The massive draw for this year’s flagship event is Dwayne Johnson, who has returned to where it all started for him, after a 11-year gap.
Not only did the Black Adam actor send fans into raptures with his presence, he also capped off a perfect night by winning the the contest inside the ring along with teammate Roman Reigns against the pair of Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.
A detailed account in USA Today reported every minute of the exciting thriller between the four wrestlers that ultimately resulted in The Rock and his partner coming out on top. His entry into the ring was also epic, in which he walked into the burning flame from his brahma bull logo while holding a banner that said ‘The People’s Champ’.
While WWE buffs witnessed The Rock do what he does best, many viewers also expressed concern after watching footage of the celebrity possibly suffering an injury after bouncing off the side of the ring. This concern was brought on by the fact that Johnson had earlier injured himself pretty seriously in WrestleMania 29 during his fight with John Cena.

Dwayne Johnson’s WrestleMania 29 Matchup With John Cena Ended In Surgery
While fans are showing concern for a probably injury that Dwayne Johnson may have suffered in his 2024 WrestleMania comeback, the incident also served as a reminder for a huge setback that the star had a decade ago.
The Rock was facing off against another wrestler-turned-action star John Cena in the 29th edition of the event, which was one of the historic matchups of the sport. Apart from the celebrities being massive draws in the event, The Scorpion King actor remembered the fight for the major injury he suffered at the time that made this encounter one that he could never forget.
In an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Johnson was asked to go down memory lane and recall one of his toughest moments inside the WWE ring. The DC alum elaborated on his WrestleMania 29 fight with Cena, which ended in him having to undergo emergency hernia surgery.
“So about ten minutes into this match, I take a Rock Bottom, which is my finisher which he gives me about ten minutes into the match. And I go up extra high, I start to turn and I over-rotate. He drives me down into the mat. And I feel this (makes a thumping sound) and I don’t know what it is. And I am laying there as 85,000 people in New York and I’m like ‘damn, what just happened? I thought a bone came through my skin You could see in the match, I start to put my hand down my trunks a little bit and I just check it out.”
The Jumanji 2 star realized that he had gone numb from waist down. With another half an hour of the match still to go and a torn quadricep, he pushed through the pain and continued to fight despite knowing that he could not beat Cena in his current condition. While the Peacemaker star expectedly won this battle, Johnson won the hearts of fans around the world.
