Season 2 of the series debuted with a two-episode premiere, which informed the viewers of Master Chief John-117 (Pablo Schreiber) and Silver Team’s condition after the end of Season 1 with the Battle of Raas Kkhotskha.
With the start of the Covenant invasion on UNSC’s Reach, the stage has been set for the Fall of Reach from the original books and games. There was one more moment in the Season 2 premiere that set up another milestone event within the series.
The reveal of Meridian is in line with the Halo games
When Master Chief is investigating the disappearance of Cobalt Team, a reference is made to the UNSC presence on Meridian, the seventh natural satellite of Hestia V. This colony was attacked by the Covenant, but managed to persevere. Meridian becomes a crucial part of the games’ timeline as in Halo 5: Guardians, it is revealed the Forerunners stationed a Guardian on the satellite that has long since been buried.
Guardians were enormous peacekeeping robots used in the ancient past by the Forerunners. This particular Guardian on Meridian was reactivated amid the AI uprising that was orchestrated and led by Cortana.
The act also leads to a clash between Master Chief’s Blue Team and Spartan Jameson Locke’s Fireteam Osirus. So, it’s clear the Guardian plays a pivotal role in the narrative, and fans would appreciate the series sticking true to the source material in this regard.
If the timeline of the show is running parallel to that of the games and books, then fans of the show would have to wait another six years before witnessing the events of Halo 5: Guardians.
