The Cult of the Lamb developers just pulled a major stunt. A couple of days ago, game developers and gamers were hit with some massive news. Unity, one of the biggest game engine creators in the world, issued a statement that they will begin charging developers with a fee for every time a player installs a game that uses the Unity engine.

Even though this statement has now been changed to only affect the first time a player installs the game, it has still left a sour taste for game developers.

This led to huge backlash on social media, which prompted the Cult Of The Lamb developers to issue a statement that they will be shutting the game down once this policy begins. However, this has now been revealed to be a joke from the developers.

Why Did The Cult Of The Lamb Developers Go Through With The Joke?

Cult Of The Lamb Developer Threatens To Fight Unity Policy Change By Deleting Game

It is never good news to hear that a game is shutting down, especially a particularly new game like Cult Of The Lamb. So to see them threaten to close down the game on January 1st, the same day Unity will be beginning their new policy was an eye opener for many gamers.

Still, it came as a bigger shock when, on the Cult Of The Lamb’s official Twitter/X, they announced this was all a joke.

This announcement has brought a lot of confusion to fans of Cult Of The Lamb, but to the hardcore gamers, this makes perfect sense as Cult Of The Lamb is a game that doesn’t take itself seriously.

The developers encourage a slight bit of chaos both in the game and outside in their social media feed. But this announcement has left quite a sour taste for fans of the title, as they supported the decision to fight back against Unity, only to find out it was all a joke.

Most likely, Cult Of The Lamb and its development company, Massive Monster, went through with this joke to try and get a bit of attention for the game. It recently announced a new collaboration with Don’t Starve, and is most likely looking to add more DLC in the future. So, gaining attention from news media is a big win for Cult Of The Lamb.

Will This Joke Affect Cult Of The Lambs Relation To Unity?

Cult Of The Lamb Developer Threatens To Fight Unity Policy Change By Deleting Game

When it comes to game development, there are a lot of hurdles to jump through to create a game, and one of those is getting a good engine and keeping a good relationship with the company providing that engine.

But with this joke from Cult Of The Lamb, it could jeopardize the relationship with Unity, unless the company makes it clear from the start that it would be making this joke to avoid any backlash.

If the company did not discuss this with Unity, there might have been a lot of backlash from Unity to the point of even refusing Massive Monster access to their engine for its other projects.

This would have caused a lot of issues for Massive Monster as they currently have a large amount of projects being developed using the Unity engine, which would most likely explain the retraction of their jokes against Unity.

So far, this seemed just to be a joke from a developer who saw fit to bring a bit of humor to a rather dark topic in the gaming industry at this time.

It tricked countless media sites into thinking Cult Of The Lamb would be leaving game stores in January, but now that it has been announced as a joke, fans of the game franchise can breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy their animal cults in peace.

What do you think about this news from Massive Monster regarding Cult Of The Lamb? Are you annoyed at this joke from Cult Of The Lamb, or did you find it funny? Let us know in the comments!
