It has been a long time coming, and although the announcement of the renewal took some time, The CW finally agreed to move the series forward to Season 4 with some major tweaks.

The CW’s Superman & Lois Renewed For Season 4 But With Drastic Changes

As per Deadline, The CW’s Superman & Lois will return for another installment as the final DC show under the network. While the renewal has received the green light, it will only consist of 10 episodes, and some budget cuts will be applied. Fans assume that several cast members will be removed as a result of this change.

Brad Schwartz, The CW’s President of Entertainment, said in a statement about the show’s return along with another series:

We are thrilled to bring All American: Homecoming and Superman & Lois back to The CW. These series are two of our strongest performers across our linear and digital platforms, with some of the most passionate fanbases in all of television. We are grateful to our partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions for their continued collaboration, and we cannot wait to get started on the new seasons.”

Fans would remember Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch’s debut on the famed Arrowverse in The Flash and Supergirl, but their presence was too strong not to explore their own stories. Showrunner Todd Helbing, together with Warner Bros, decided to give the duo a shot at their own solo show.

While they are considered part of the franchise, the events are separate from the main Arrowverse’s Earth-Prime, giving them more autonomy in terms of storytelling and creative freedom. Now that Gotham Knights has been canceled, and The Flash has concluded its nine-season run, Superman & Lois marks the final DC project under The CW.

The recent renewal announcement, together with the disappointing budget cut news, seems to agitate viewers, and now, they are expecting the show would suffer from this drastic change. DC fans took to Twitter to share their annoyance and expressed what they think about this plan. Check out their tweets below:

Fans can only wait to see if the show could retain its quality even after the budget cut and the possible reduction of the supporting cast.

Despite the rumored budget reduction, Todd Helbing expressed his interest in bringing The Flash into Superman & Lois’s fourth season. He noted that it would be an epic scene to witness Iris West (Candice Patton) meet Lois Lane. He shared with Entertainment Weekly:

I will say this, it sure is a lot easier now that the other shows aren’t on the air, people’s schedules are a lot easier to work around, so… maybe. I would love to bring Grant on, and I think it would be a lot of fun to have Candice, to have Iris with [Elizabeth Tulloch’s] Lois Lane.”

Since the multiverse is already a huge trend in comic book series adaptations, there is a lot of potential for this plan to become a reality. However, considering the major changes the production team wanted to implement, fans are hoping it won’t affect the show’s quality, as evident in their responses from Twitter.
