Back in October 2023, professional wrestler Sting revealed that he would be retiring from in-ring competition in 2024 and the time has finally come. At All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Revolution, Sting performed his final match along with Darby Allin. Together, the two competed for the AEW World Tag Team Championship against the Young Bucks.
While Sting and Darby Allin managed to retain their tag team titles, there was something else that made Sting’s retirement match all the more memorable and exciting – the stunts. 64-year-old Sting managed to pull off many death-defying stunts as he went all out for his retirement match. The man was thrown through glass, slammed into a table, and whatnot. However, it was Darby Allin’s Swanton Bomb that stole the spotlight.
Darby Allin Steals the Show at Sting’s Retirement Match
During the main event of the AEW Revolution, Sting and Darby Allin teamed up to defeat The Young Bucks and managed to defend their AEW Tag Team titles. Given the fact that this was Sting’s final match, the win certainly meant much more to him than usual.
The day was full to the brim with Sting performing some dangerous stunts which made fans say, “Sting you’re 64 years old bro.”

However, his partner Allin wasn’t holding back either. In fact, his Swanton Bomb just might have stolen the limelight from the man of the hour himself. For his extremely dangerous stunt, Allin climbed up to the top of the ladder, leaped off, and slammed into glass.

As a result, Allin’s back was covered in cuts thanks to the glass shards piercing him. The wrestler was just lying there on his stomach as blood trickled down his back. Luckily, the injuries had nothing on Allin who showed up at the press conference and confirmed his well-being stating, “I just wanted to let people know I’m still alive.” Clearly, a couple (hundred) pieces of broken glass cannot shatter Allin’s spirit. The feat makes Tom Cruise’s stunts look much more manageable!
Darby Allin Talks about Winning the Match with Sting
After the match was said and done, ending in Allin and Sting’s favor, the former spoke his heart out about winning the title. During a conversation with Denise Salcedo, Allin was asked to talk about the “phenomenal week” he just had. The wrestler stated,
“Dude, it’s been an amazing week. I’m a little banged up after Wednesday but when am I ever not banged up? The big thing about it though, to me, is having Sting’s career end this way. It’s so insane cause’ like, I remember my first year in professional wrestling, I saw him essentially have to retire back in 2015 with the neck injury…Fast forward now and like, convincing him to get back in the ring…it’s pretty cool to see how far we’ve came.”
Allin continued that while Sting could’ve easily “rode off into the sunset,” he admires him for continuously pushing himself forward.
“I don’t tell him to jump off those balconies that’s all him. But it’s awesome to see how much he’s willing to push it because he’s got nothing to prove.”
It looks like Sting winning his retirement match meant more to Allin than it did to Sting himself! It’s quite evident that he has a lot of respect for his former partner.
