Dave Filoni is doing a great job building an interconnected universe with all the live-action Star Wars TV shows. While not all have hit it out of the park, it is safe to say that the fans have generally loved the overall universe and are excited about its future. The most recent series was the Rosario Dawson-led Ahsoka which was generally well received by fans.
The series also witnessed the long-awaited return of Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker. Filoni had been long dreaming of the reunion between the two characters. However, he avoided one unnecessary approach and instead chose a better way to bring them together.
Dave Filoni Avoided Telling a History Lesson for Ahsoka-Anakin Reunion
The recent Disney+ Star Wars series Ahsoka saw the return of Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano after her amazing appearance in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. The series also saw the highly anticipated reunion of Ahsoka and Anakin Skywalker with Hayden Christensen reprising the role. The two characters already have a complex history in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars show
Dave Filoni had been dreaming of bringing together the two characters in live-action. However, Filoni told Entertainment Weekly that he did not want to dive into a Star Wars history lesson in showcasing the reunion and instead placed them in a location that defined their past. He said,
“We discussed how this isn’t really a story about Anakin, but it’s important to see how Ahsoka sees Anakin. This is her lived experience. [His] story is already told, and George’s saga is done. But this is important for her because you’re her mentor.”
Filoni’s unique approach paid off as the reunion and the beautiful way it was handed in the series were greatly praised by fans. Christensen did not lose any of his intensity as Anakin from the prequel trilogy and he brought an edge to the series that elevated the material even further.
Dave Filoni Says Ray Stevenson Would Have Been Proud of the Series
Ray Stevenson starred as Baylan Skoll in Ahsoka who is a former Jedi playing a pivotal role in the series’ narrative. He became one of the fan-favorite characters from the show. Unfortunately, Stevenson passed away this year without getting to see and receive all the love that fans have been showering on his character.
Dave Filoni told Vanity Fair that the late actor would have been extremely happy with the fan’s reception to his character and he also expressed his gratitude for getting to spend time together sometime before he passed. He said,
“I think he would’ve been over the moon. The big regret here is that he didn’t get to experience that. I’m glad he was at Star Wars Celebration with us, that he got to see the trailer and get a taste of that from the fans. And they’ve been nothing but wonderful about Ray and the character.”
Filoni has been promoted to the position of chief creative officer at Lucasfilm and will have a more inclusive voice with future Star Wars content. He is also gearing up to direct a Star Wars film which was announced at this year’s Star Wars celebration.
