Many fans guessed it would either be Kingsman star Taron Egerton or Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe, both rumored top choices for the replacement of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. They are pretty much aware of the buzz circulating online; in fact, Egerton told Total Film via The Direct:

I’m too old for it now. I think that ship has probably sailed. Yeah, that whole Wolverine thing – I get asked about it, and no matter what you say, it gets turned into what people want you to say about it. I’m not going to be the guy to play Wolverine.”

Similarly, Radcliffe debunked the speculation via an interview with Vanity Fair that he was bulking up for the coveted Marvel role. While he feels honored to have been associated with the famed hero, he is not up for it.

Of course, if either of them was involved in Deadpool 3, they would not want to spoil the fun for the audience. If the scooper’s information proves to be true, then fans will soon meet a new version of Wolverine that would perhaps continue the narrative of Jackman’s iconic character in future MCU.

Aside from Wolverine’s variant making a cameo, there will also be an onslaught of surprise appearances from other popular X-Men characters, such as Professor X, Magneto, Storm, Cyclops, and Jean Grey.

With Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine finally sharing the screen in Deadpool & Wolverine, the Merc with a Mouth actor told The Wrap how challenging it is for both of them:

I think it’s a tightrope walk. I mean most of these movies are always a tightrope walk of tone, so in this instance, though, you have a collision of two pretty iconic characters that exist in the Marvel Ancillary Universe [laughs] — we’re in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this point.”

Reynolds also remarked that they tried to find a way to service both characters that is most authentic for each of them. The official teaser for Deadpool 3 is out now. Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26, 2024.
