Five months before its summer release, Shawn Levy’s Deadpool 3 (July 26, 2024) is already generating record-breaking hype. It is evident that fans are eager for Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman to face off in this upcoming MCU film, as evidenced by the action-packed trailer’s over 10 million views in a single day.
Well, the Merc with a Mouth is back, and he’s bringing along a few familiar faces! Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to be a must-see movie for comic book fans, as in addition to Deadpool and Wolverine making an appearance, Jennifer Garner is also going to reprise her role as Elektra.
Fans might remember Garner’s riveting performance as the highly trained assassin Elektra in the 2003 film Daredevil, alongside Ben Affleck. Even though the film got mixed reviews, fans praised Garner’s portrayal of Elektra and have been clamoring for her to return to the superhero genre ever since.
Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 Will See Jennifer Garner Reprise Elektra?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Catch Me If You Can actress Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra in Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming flick Deadpool 3. The Deadpool 2 sequel, which is a part of the Disney and Marvel Cinematic Universe, is currently filming in London and stars Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
In the 2003 film, Daredevil, Garner, 51, portrayed Elektra, an assassin, opposite Ben Affleck, who is now her ex-husband. She went on to play Elektra in the same-titled film later in 2005. In 2021, Garner told THR that she was disappointed, particularly in light of the way that Kevin Feige had created critically acclaimed Marvel movies. She said:
“It’s such a shame, honestly, because once Kevin took over, everything there was elevated: the writing, the direction, the comedy inside of the stories they were telling. And I did not have that experience.”
Deadpool 3 is directed by Shawn Levy, who worked with Reynolds and Garner on the Netflix movie, The Adam Project. Elektra’s presence in Deadpool 3 may allude to a long-rumored multiverse plot point.
With this exciting news, it’s safe to say that Deadpool 3 is shaping up as one of the most action-packed and star-studded Marvel films yet. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of their favorite Merc with a Mouth, and it appears that Reynolds is pulling out all the stops to deliver an unforgettable film experience.
Deadpool 3: Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova Reportedly Confirmed?
The biggest bombshell from the recent U.S. copyright filing is the revelation that British actor Emma Corrin will be playing Charles Xavier’s twin sister, Cassandra Nova (via Cosmic Marvel on X). Upon being cast for Deadpool & Wolverine, Corrin was completely unaware of what they were in for, in typical Marvel fashion.
However, Corrin (who identifies as non-binary and uses the pronouns they/them) previously spoke with Empire and expressed how excited they were to play an evil character:
“I feel really excited to play a villain. I haven’t done that, and it’s an itch I want to scratch.”
Corrin will have a lot of screen time, and their presence could have an impact on the MCU’s future considering the importance of Cassandra in the multiverse and larger X-Men lore. They made a name for themselves as Princess Diana of Wales in the critically acclaimed drama series The Crown on Netflix.
Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine stars Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen. Levy talked with Wired about his R rated Marvel movie.
“Not only have Kevin Feige and Marvel and Disney supported this extremely Deadpool-ian, audacious, R-rated tone, they’ve also supported our super meta, self-referential self-awareness. Some of the jokes are dirty, some of them are cultural observations, but that’s what we love about Deadpool, that he knows he’s in a movie, even though the stakes are real.”
So mark your calendars and get ready to embark on an adventure like no other when this much-anticipated film hits theaters.
Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in theaters on July 26, 2024. Meanwhile, Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are streaming on Disney Plus.
