Deadpool & Wolverine dropped its teaser during the Big Game. The trailer has made some waves on the internet, sending theorists and easter egg hunters wildly into speculation territory. One big theory that has come out of the teaser is that Vanessa played by Morena Baccarin and Ryan Reynold’s Wade Wilson are no longer a couple.

This is based on a couple of shots that have been seen in the trailer. Vanessa and Wade share an awkward moment, and we see Wade having an intense conversation with Vanessa in one of the shots in the teaser. Further, Vanessa also refers to Wade as ‘buddy’, which is said by maintaining a respectable distance from him, while he is cutting his birthday cake. This has given rise to another theory, pointing that perhaps sheds light on what Deadpool’s motivations might be for Deadpool & Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine might be a love story

It is an understatement of enormous proportions to say that Vanessa has affected Deadpool’s life. The first film revolved around Deadpool trying to fix his appearance so that he could be with Vanessa, and the second film revolved around him dealing with her death. In the third film, if they are to break up, it is safe to assume that Wade will be more than a little heartbroken.

We also see that the TVA will try to capture Wade and successfully send him on missions. This begs the question as to what could be motivating Wade to go on these adventures. The theory suggests that the prize Wade is being offered is to settle in a universe where he can have a relationship with Vanessa, perhaps one where he succumbs to his cancer, leaving Vanessa alone, and heartbroken.

While this could be Deadpool’s arc in the story, Wolverine could have his own motivations, perhaps having a similar story in being allowed to exist in a universe where Jean Grey and he can be in a relationship.

If Deadpool has indeed broken up with Vanessa, it could be so that the film book ends where it begins. Wade would go on a quest across the multiverse, perhaps meet alternate Vanessas, and then realize that it won’t work out with any of them. Following this, as would be the logical conclusion of such an arc, he would come to terms with his break up with Vanessa, and move on, allowing him to finally see her as a friend and celebrate his birthday with others.

Since the TVA is involved, we can assume that everyone at the party might not even realize that Deadpool is gone, for he can snagged by the TVA, have a full adventure, and then be dropped at the same spot not even a second later, making it so that Wade had an adventure on his birthday, something that changed him.
