Deadpool and Wolverine is set to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rumors have begun to take hold of various spaces on the internet, focusing on different aspects of the teaser, among which is the claim that Deadpool is going to visit key events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is allegedly corroborated by an inside report, saying that the film will have an extended cameo with an antagonist that has already appeared in the MCU.

One of the key frontrunners among antagonists of the MCU past, who could appear in the film, is inferred from the surroundings we see Deadpool in. Given the icy terrain, several speculations point towards a revisit of a key Avengers event that was left out of the time-heist in Avengers: Endgame. Deadpool, Wolverine, and other assorted allies could see themselves returning to a point in the timeline shown to the audiences in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Avengers: Age of Ultron was a film that promised a lot of emotional gut punches. However, the film ended up being more of a comedy than a serious affair, soundly butchering the character of Ultron, who is supposed to be one of the premier threats to the Avengers. Despite casting James Spader as the iconic villain, who is a great dramatic actor, the Ultron that audiences received was quippy, cheesy, and all over the place, as opposed to the calculated, advanced tyrant that was promised to them.

Deadpool and Wolverine will be soundly integrating the mutant population in the MCU, and thanks to the multiversal nature of the film, Deadpool could be visiting some of the most iconic moments of the MCU, ones that were particularly left out from Avengers: Endgame. This could mean that they could find themselves in the part of the original MCU timeline that is Avengers: Age of Ultron, and encounter the genocidal robot before, during, or after the events of the film.

According to the report, an MCU villain is set to make an appearance again in the MCU. Footage that has been released so far points towards an Ultron cameo, but it could be the host of mutants adjacent and big-name villains that could make an appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine

Deadpool and Wolverine already have a problem that will plague their marketing material until the film releases. The same issue was faced by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Expectations for the film are going to be extremely high, and much like Doctor Strange, it seems that the narrative is shifting toward setting expectations about cameos, which may or, may not occur in the film.

While this has hurt films like Multiverse of Madness, Deadpool and Wolverine have a lot of cushioning that might save it from the same fate as Multiverse of Madness. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are in iconic enough roles that they can carry the film on their backs. Further, the film has already revealed a great cast that can handle a project like this, with enough fan favorites returning for the film, especially as a part of the MCU.

While the film did make a lot of many, Multiverse of Madness was less pleasing to the fans, despite its inclusion of Mutants and the Fantastic Four, which was cause for concern in the MCU. Deadpool and Wolverine need to be careful of repeating the same mistake, as the film must manage the audience’s expectations and deliver what has been promised for sure.
