Emma Corrin is officially playing Cassandra Nova in Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3. The antagonist is famously known as Charles Xavier’s evil twin sister, whose history in the comics is far more brutal than any adaptation can ever translate onto the screen.
The initial rumors of the character’s appearance in the movie came to be after fans spotted a mysterious bald head in the trailer. At the time, The Crown actress’ role in the film was unknown.
Who Is Emma Corrin’s Cassandra Nova?
The confirmation of Emma Corrin starring as Cassandra Nova in Deadpool 3 came from the official Deadpool and Wolverine copyright. Many fans would be wondering who this ruthless villain is and her backstory aside from being the wicked sister of Professor X.
The character was introduced in 2001’s New X-Men #114 comic story penned by Grant Morrison. To have a better understanding of Cassandra Nova, Comics Unlocked on YouTube provided a narrative of her origins.
“Cassandra Nova is the dark counterpart of her twin brother and is from a species of parasites who exist within the astral plane. Due to Charles’s unique telepathic abilities, she was able to create her own body by copying her brother’s DNA while still in the womb.”
At this point, Cassandra Nova has made the impression that she’s not to be messed with. As soon as her brother felt she was going to be the black sheep, he exterminated the life out of her. But, as mentioned, she’s not to be trifled with because she comes back even stronger.
“Charles recognized her evil presence and was forced to defeat her causing a miscarriage. However, she survived in the sewers and returned with a burning desire for vengeance. She committed the genocide of 16 million mutants in Genosha and later infiltrated the X-Mansion where she defeated many of the X-Men.”
Since killing every single mutant in the world was not enough, Cassandra Nova “switched minds with Charles Xavier and trapped him in her dying body and continued her massacre of mutants as Professor X.” If this was a play, this is the boss-level part of the game.
Although it seems unlikely that Marvel Studios will adapt this storyline in the movie, the possibility of witnessing this on a big screen in the most R-rated fashion is indeed a dream come true for fans.
Emma Corrin On Joining The MCU As A Deadpool Villain
Emma Corrin previously expressed excitement over Marvel debut in Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3. The Lady Chatterley’s Lover star told Empire Online:
“I really understand why it means as much as it does to so many people. It’s a phenomenon, and I feel really lucky to be part of it, especially Deadpool because I love the fact that it’s self-aware and critical of its own inner workings.”
Deadpool & Wolverine’s cast also includes Hugh Jackman, Morena Baccarin, Matthew Macfadyen, Owen Wilson, Stefan Kapičić, Brianna Hildebrand, and Jennifer Garner, among others.
