There have been various rumours regarding the upcoming PlayStation title and many of these point to the sequel being released this year. Others speculate that an official title reveal will be coming in the next few weeks. Needless to say, Death Stranding fans are excitedly waiting for what Kojima Productions will be announcing.

Norman Reedus will be reprising his role as Sam Bridges alongside Léa Seydoux and Troy Baker.

There has been a suggestion from reliable leaker billbil-kun that an official announcement for the much-anticipated game can be expected in the next 2 weeks. There is no confirmation whether the announcement will be announced through a State of Play presentation but this has been heavily rumoured since the turn of the year.

So this could surely allude to a title confirmation from the company. Well, Hideo Kojima has been extremely vocal about his love of the 64-year-old classic Hollywood film On the Beach which features Gregory Peck, Fred Astaire and Ava Gardner. This can be seen in his X post from August of last year;

The 1959 film which is based on the novel of the same name, which was released two years earlier, is based on the aftermath of a nuclear war. So it’s clear why it could be seen as source material for Kojima to use for the Death Stranding series of games.

Looking at Social Media site X, we can see that Kojima recently re-posted a clip by @naven0m which simply put On the Beach followed by a question mark and the latest trailer. Could it be that he is alluding to what the title of Death Stranding 2 will be? Or is this a simple subterfuge from the developer? It seems more likely to be the former but time will tell.

Whilst many fans are no doubt anxiously waiting for the new Death Stranding game there is also the live-action film adaptation being worked on by A24. The Studio behind the smash-hit Everything Everywhere All at Once and the independent company that won an Oscar for their movie will be hoping that the collaboration with Kojima Productions can bring them more success.

Whilst there may not be confirmation for the working title for Death Stranding 2, all the suggestions point towards On the Beach being the title for the upcoming game. Hideo Kojima is a man who can be seen as somewhat obsessive and given his repeated mentions of how the Hollywood classic is his favourite film, it would make sense to see this announced in the near future.

The rumours surrounding the title for the upcoming Death Stranding 2 game have ramped up.

Kojima is the sort of person who would love to throw the title of his favourite film into an upcoming game and it is only speculation at the time of writing. There is every chance that all the breadcrumbs that Kojima has been leaving across Social Media is just a red herring to blindside fans to what the title is. However, like most instances, fans will have to be patient and see what comes in the next few weeks.
