Disney is one of the largest and possibly the most influential companies in the world. The company has a rich history that spans a century, having bewitched millions of people with its immersive storytelling and imagination that instills a cheerful and comforting feel to it. The company has constantly challenged traditional beliefs by reimagining folklore, fairy tales, and classic literature to create the versions that the pop culture would imagine it to be.

Disney intended to reimagine their popular children’s film from 1989, The Little Mermaid. The live adaptation featured Halle Bailey, which led to immense hate and criticism, even racist remarks against the actress. However, that did not stop the film from performing well on the silver screens, earning more than the heavily anticipated DCEU’s The Flash.

Disney’s The Little Mermaid Was a Success Despite Suffering From Backlash

When Disney announced that they would make a live adaptation of the popular children’s animated from 1989, The Little Mermaid, the news immediately led to some online backlash. However, that was nothing compared to the nasty hate online, when the company announced that Halle Bailey would portray the role of Ariel in the live adaptation film.

Though Bailey was not the fan-favorite actress to portray the role of the mermaid princess, the casting choice soon led to questions, debating the authenticity, followed by criticism directed at her casting. The main reason for the hate was that Bailey did not have red locks like the character, and though it could be colored like the character it would look unnatural.

However, the primary reason the Let It Shine actress faced immense backlash was because of her skin color. As people know, Ariel has fair skin, which has remained untouched in various plays, stage adaptations, prequels, merchandise, and theme park tie-ins by Disney. The company decided it was time to change it so that it shaped a new generation where diversity is appreciated. However, people failed to see it, as they degraded Bailey with racist remarks.

However, the immense backlash could not stop Disney or Halle Bailey as the film was a great watch featuring wonderful songs, and each musical was enchanting and entertaining to watch. Though the story remains the same, the new nuances were appreciated, with Under The Sea and Part Of Your World songs being amazing renditions, with the film earning $542.1 million at the worldwide box office.

Disney Fans Troll The Flash As Over-Hyped Movie of The Year

Andrés Muschietti’s The Flash starring Ezra Miller was released last month, which was supposed to be the superhero movie of the year. The film is the 13th installment in the DCEU and will mark an end to the Snyderverse, and the beginning of Gunn’s DCU. The film was well-marketed, and even renowned actor, Tom Cruise praised the film, hence the hype for the movie was through the roof.

However, the film was nowhere near the hype it created, earning a mere $261.5 million at the worldwide box office, which would have been okay if it had not been hyped so much. As a result, Disney fans are trolling The Flash.

A fan showcased his love for the adaptation, hoping that the film crosses the $ 600 million milestone.

Another fan tweeted,

Another fan stated that The Little Mermaid had double the earnings of The Flash.

The failure of The Flash has raised eyebrows at James Gunn, the Co-CEO of DC Studios. As he was brought to DC Studios to make them a successful franchise so that they can be a direct rival to Marvel. However, producing such films would lead fans to lose faith in the filmmaker. But, it is still too soon to say as Gunn is busy with Superman: Legacy, his first film in the rebooted franchise.
