Many iconic characters have appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since the release of Iron Man back in 2008. However, not many characters have been able to make as huge an impact on the franchise as Tony Stark has.
Even though he is considered one of the most intelligent characters in the Marvel Universe, it seems like Stark was allegedly too lazy to come up with a creative full form for JARVIS.
Tony Stark gave the most ridiculous full form to JARVIS
Despite being one of the most intelligent characters in multiple universes, Tony Stark was just too lazy to give a creative name to one of its most helpful AI, JARVIS. According to Marvel, JARVIS stands for ‘Just a Rather Very Intelligent System‘ which does not seem like much of a cool acronym for an AI system of its magnificent abilities.
Voiced by Paul Bettany in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, JARVIS was made by Tony Stark to make his day-to-day tasks easier. JARVIS was named after the loyal household butler of the Stark family, Edwin Jarvis who was shown once in a shot conversing with Stark’s father, Howard Stark in Avengers: Endgame.
In the movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron, JARVIS was destroyed by Ultron, and his software was implanted in a Vibranium body which later came to be known as The Vision. The Vision holds one of the six infinity stones, the Mind Stone at its forehead which also serves as a power source for his body, and keeps him alive.
Paul Bettany was a bit disappointed after he was given the role of The Vision
Paul Bettany gave voice to the super-smart AI, JARVIS in four movies before was eventually given the role of The Vision in Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although the role of Vision was definitely an upgrade from voicing the character of JARVIS, Bettany certainly was a bit disappointed as he once revealed in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
According to Paul Bettany, his work in the movies had increased significantly while transitioning from the role of JARVIS to the Vision. He said,
“But everything is a double edged sword, right? Because I was playing J.A.R.V.I.S. for years and my job was I would turn up at a recording studio for 45 minutes, do all my stuff, and then they would give me huge bag of cash and then I’d go home. Now it turns out they found me out and they want me to actually do something.“
Paul Bettany went on to play the role of the Vision in 3 movies in MCU before he was eventually murdered by Thanos when he took the mind stone from the forehead of the character in Avengers: Infinity War.
Years after the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch kidnaps the body of Vision in Wandavision. She created a false reality in the town of Westview, New Jersey with the help of her magic. However, after Wanda releases her magic at the end of Wandavision, Vision ceases to exist from reality.
