After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans of the friendly neighborhood superhero are looking forward to the next adventure of Peter Parker. Tom Holland will soon be donning the iconic red-blue suit once again and this time, a super-villain won’t be the only problem he faces. Since he is forgotten by everyone he loves, including MJ and Ned, Peter will have to navigate his way through life alone.
While all of this contributes to a promising storyline, it looks like there might be some bad news for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4, according to some sources. We all know that No Way Home set the bar quite high for all the superhero movies that will come after it. Thanks to this, the expectations for the sequel have been higher than ever but it seems as if Spider-Man 4 could be facing a fate similar to that of Madame Web’s.
Unfortunate Report about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4
According to a popular industry scooper, ‘CanWeGetSomeToast,’ things are not looking up for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4. Apparently, sources have given inside information to CanWeGetSomeToast about the highly-anticipated sequel stating that the behind-the-scenes for the film aren’t looking too “hot.”

While we cannot say for certain what this means, the report has fans in worry. Fans are calling out Sony for wanting to make Spider-Man 4 a cash grab instead of trying to make a movie that actually shows the essence of Peter Parker. While the audience wants a sweet and simple sequel that focuses on just Peter’s next adventure as Spider-Man, they are worried Sony will want to turn it into yet another multiverse story.
Check out what fans have to say about this unfortunate scoop:
I hope that's not true. I need another masterpiece

They want NWH cash, Marvel wants a grounded SM movie. If they wanted more cash they'll have made Sam Raimi's SM 4 and TASM 3 and not those silly SM spin offs

Sony wants "Spiderman 4" to be another multiversal movie, because they saw how amazing "Spiderman: No way Home" did. And they wanna copy it. But No, Spiderman 4 needs to be a street-level movie. Sony you already did a amazing multiversal movie with Tobey and Andrew

Fans of the superhero universe are concerned that Sony Pictures is on its way to butcher Spider-Man 4 just like they did with Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web. If fans’ speculations about turning the sequel into a multiverse cash-grab are right, it might be a better idea to just let Holland’s Peter be the main attraction of the upcoming sequel, despite the multiverse angle doing wonders for No Way Home.
Will Spider-Man 4 Go Down the Madame Web Road?
Johnson made her debut in the superhero universe with S.J. Clarkson’s recently released Madame Web. The film is the fourth addition to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe after Venom, Venom 2, and Morbius. Unfortunately, while there was a ton of hype for the Johnson-starrer, the release did not see positive reviews, neither from fans nor from critics. In fact, Madame Web managed to make only $6 million at the box office on its opening day and is projected to reach a meager $20-25 million over six days.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film, which also stars Sydney Sweeney, has received an extremely disappointing score of 14% with critics calling it one of the “worst comic book movies” ever made. The Times’ Kevin Maher also made a bold comment stating that Madame Web signified the death of the superhero genre. Giving the film one star out of five, Maher said,
“In its sheer mind-boggling awfulness, it represents the death of the superhero genre, the burning of the superhero genre to the ground and then the returning in the middle of the night to piss on the superhero genre’s ashes.”
Yikes! That was harsh! If Sony doesn’t fix its mistakes with Spider-Man 4 while there’s still time, we are afraid the sequel could face a similar reception upon its release. Holland’s Spider-Man movies are nothing short of incredible, it would suck to see the sequel suffer like Madame Web.
Madame Web is currently playing in theatres.
