The director has a lot on his plate for now but he was previously attached to the project after the success of the live-action remake of Aladdin. It was a treat for the studio as he made the movie a $1 billion global box office haul for the studio. So, it was obvious that the studio wanted more of what Ritchie had under his sleeves.

Did Guy Ritchie Abandoned Hercules Live Action?

The House of the Mouse was very keen on keeping Guy Ritchie as head of the table for the 1997 Hercules live-action remake. As Deadline previously reported, Ritchie was helmed for the project with Joe & Anthony Russo’s AGBO producing the film. However, a recent report from insider Daniel Richtman revealed that Ritchie is no longer involved in the project, the reason is not clear as of yet.

Of late, there has not been any high confidence booster with the recent live-action releases from the studio including The Little Mermaid. The Rob Marshall-directed and Halle Bailey-starrer movie was expected to be a huge hit but went the other way around. Ritchie’s exit from the studio raises a few questions but primarily, is it the director leaving the studio or Disney scrapping the entire project? Regardless, if the reports came to light proved to be true, Ritchie is far out of the musical.

Ritchie is restless, the director has been busy with several projects on the line. 2023 alone witnessed two movies— Jake Gyllenhaal and Dar Salim starrer The Covenant and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre starring his long-time collaborator Jason Statham.

With the trailer drop of The Gentlemen— a spinoff series of his popular 2019 action film of the same name— Ritchie is set to bring his A-game with astonishing action for the Netflix series. “The world of The Gentlemen is a little bit of me,” Ritchie told Netflix of the Theo James-led show. “We’re looking forward to bringing fans back into that world, introducing new characters and their stories, and I am excited to be doing it with this extremely talented cast,” he added. The action show will debut on Netflix in March 2024.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare starring Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson, also has a release date, scheduled to hit the theaters on 19 April 2024. The trailer has already created a huge buzz and fans are eager to witness Cavill’s post-Superman film. The director was also roped in to direct the Apple TV Plus film Fountain of Youth starring John Krasinski and Natalie Portman as estranged siblings partnering up on a global heist to find the mythological Fountain of Youth.
