Ryan Reynolds – a blessing to mankind – was born to embody the role of Deadpool for eternity. In spite of generational progress or technological evolution, the fact is always going to stand that “Ryan Reynolds crossed with a Shar-pei” is always going to be Deadpool personified. But, as far as Elizabeth Olsen is concerned, the actress’s multiversal role as Wanda Maximoff aka the Scarlet Witch has been a point of contention ever since her foray into Phase 4 as the maniacal revenge machine out for blood.

As news gets out of the actress’s role in the upcoming Ryan Reynolds threequel, Deadpool 3, the fans all clamor as fast as they can to put a stop to the potential disaster in the making, especially considering how the Doctor Strange 2 narrative negated the entire arc and character development of her superhero that was carefully crafted over the course of WandaVision.

Deadpool 3 Set To Bring Back Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch

The upcoming superhero movie venture resurrecting Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine back from the dead “one last time” will also witness the return of Rob Delaney’s Peter and cast from Loki, including Agent Mobius and Miss Minutes. But now, the news headlines have been rife with the potential cameo of Channing Tatum’s Gambit accompanied by yet another resurrection in the form of Elizabeth Olsen‘s Wanda/Scarlet Witch. However, in this case, the variant set to return will be the Earth-838 Wanda while the mainstream MCU’s Scarlet Witch remains very much buried under the ruins of Mount Wundagore.

While this is happy news concerning the return and potential future of Elizabeth Olsen in the MCU for yet another Marvel venture to come (and one that also has links to her superhero alter-ego’s origin arc among the X-Men), it is also enough to raise the hackles among the fans for repurposing the same problems that led to the premature downfall of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Now, with the multiverse being brought into the mix once again, the fans are troubled by and wary of the inclusion of an Earth-838 character, considering how the multiversal adventure had turned out the last time Marvel attempted such a thing in live-action on such a grand scale.

Elizabeth Olsen’s reprisal of the unilaterally loved role of Scarlet Witch was a matter of great anticipation in the Phase Four sequel of Doctor Strange. But the turn that her character took in the film, especially in the immediate aftermath of Wanda’s mental and emotional growth in the Disney+ series WandaVision felt like a whiplash to the senses and detrimental to the logical progression of a superhero’s evolving identity. In the aftermath, processions of people, including Olsen herself, expressed disapproval of Scarlet Witch’s shift in character that did not respect the continuity.

Now, fans are coming out in droves to protest against Deadpool 3 resigning itself to a similar fate while there is still time after the announcement of Olsen joining the cast as Earth-838 Wanda.

With Shawn Levy set to direct, Deadpool 3 starring Elizabeth Olsen and Hugh Jackman will witness an injured Wolverine coming across Ryan Reynolds‘ titular anti-hero, Deadpool, and the pair teaming up to take down a common enemy Acteur, played by Emma Corrin. Succession star Matthew Macfadyen has also joined the cast in a yet-to-be-revealed role. The film is scheduled to wrap filming in September.
