One of the well-known characters from the franchise is Master Roshi, the sensei of Goku and Krillin and one of the strongest Z fighters with a very jolly personality. However, he is the best example of tragedy in Dragon Ball. Due to Master Roshi consuming Paradise Herb, he has become immortal, and he is set to live for more than 1000 years and therefore has to watch his friends die.

Master Roshi’s fate is very sad in Dragon Ball

The beauty of time is that it never stops for anyone and will always keep moving forward. Even though Goku and Krillin are now mature adults, they were once kids who knew nothing about the world and its dangers.

The one who provided them with valuable insights was none other than Master Roshi, who took Goku and Krillin under his wing and gave them rigorous training in martial arts, which laid the foundation for their future. He was also the one who invented Goku’s signature attack Kamehameha.

Master Roshi is one of the first characters introduced to the series and was probably the strongest person on Earth before Goku and Krillin became teenagers. Do not let his appearance deceive you. According to estimations, he is 300 years old at the commencement of the story and is someone you don’t want to mess with.

Although it has been ignored by the majority of Dragon Ball fans, the fate of Master Roshi is very sad, as he would either have to see all his loved ones die or die a violent death in a battle. The reason is the consumption of an herb called Paradise Herb.

Found in the Forrest of Terror, which is located on an unnamed island and can be entered through a statue of an unknown creature’s large mouth. The herb is stated to increase the life span of its consumers by 1000 years.

Master Roshi consumed the Paradise herb in Dragon Ball Super episode 76, increasing his life span by 1000 years. Now that Roshi has a life span of more than 1000 years, he will see all his dear friends pass away while enduring eternal life. However, there is a drawback to the herb. A fatal injury can still kill Master Roshi, and he is not immortal to being killed in battle.

Yes, you have heard it right. Although the herb increases the life span, it certainly doesn’t make you immortal; an injury suffered during combat will still suffice to kill you. The reason for the longevity of Roshi could be traced back to the Paradise herb.

As seen, both ends are full of remorse and sorrow for him, as the option of dying peacefully is not something Master Roshi has in the Dragon Ball series.

What’s happening in Dragon Ball?

Dragon Ball fans can rejoice as TOEI Animation disclosed their latest project in the Dragon Ball franchise last year, titled Dragon Ball Daima, and it is scheduled for a fall 2024 release. It is one of the most promising Dragon Ball projects for multiple reasons.

Foremost is the involvement of Akira Toriyama, who has been working very closely on the upcoming anime. Another reason is that the series is going back to its roots, as we are set to see more martial arts, and it would be similar to the OG Dragon Ball.
