There were many aspects that made the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series stand out as some of the greatest DB experiences ever created, and one of these elements was the faithfulness that it showed to its source material. Tournaments have always held a special place in the franchise since they’ve been a part of the manga and every anime adaptation that has followed, ranging from the OG DB to DBZ.

In fact, the sagas featuring these tournaments used to become instant fan favorites, and games like Budokai Tenkaichi 3 perfectly incorporated them into a dedicated mode, so it makes sense for Sparking Zero to go one step further.

Imagine Online Tournaments in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero

The Dragon World Tour mode in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 was absolutely amazing.
The Dragon World Tour mode in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 was amazing.

Back in the good old Budokai Tenkaichi 3 days, there used to be an additional mode called Dragon World Tour that allowed players to participate in tournaments, and once gamers entered, they were greeted by Mr. Satan.

Players could emerge victorious in one tournament and head to the next, and the list ranged from the World Tournament to the iconic Cell Games, with Bandai Namco even throwing in the Otherworld Tournament for fans to take part in.

Winning in any of these tournaments would reward the victor with some form of random prize, which included a specific-numbered Dragon Ball, cash, and more, but there was one aspect that couldn’t be implemented in the PS2 era game all those years ago.

Since the concept of online gaming hadn’t been introduced when the Budokai Tenkaichi series was in its prime and considering the current technological capabilities of games and platforms, a fan thinks “they should add full scale online tournaments with 20-30 players.”

I think they should add full scale online tournaments with 20-30 players. Losers get to spectate the best of the best go at it until the finals. A game mode like this should be a no brainer addition

The Dragon Ball fan pointed out how the “losers” can “spectate” the rest of the tournament until one player earns the winning trophy, further stating that “A game mode like this should be a no brainer addition.”

Fans Have Ideas Regarding the Tournaments

If Budokai Tenkaichi 3 could include so many different tournaments, then so can Sparking Zero.
If Budokai Tenkaichi 3 could include different tournaments, then so can Sparking Zero.

Fans think that if Sparking Zero does include the mode, it should go all out and have more different tournaments than Budokai Tenkaichi 3 used to have, such as the Tournament of Power and Hell’s Tournament. The latter could be a “villains only” spectacle “with Goz or Mez as the announcers,” putting an evil twist on the Dragon World Tour.

Let’s just hope that Bandai Namco is listening to the fanbase, as the tournaments are something that the community seems to have “missed the most,” so throwing in “an offline” tournament mode would be appreciated as well.
