Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi is often considered to be one of the greatest anime fighting game series ever due to how faithful it used to be to the source material. There was heart and soul put into each installment, making every entry better than the previous in almost all aspects.
The level of detail achieved by Spike and Bandai Namco was unheard of back in the day, ranging from the excellent menu screens full of individual personalities to the fitting music accompanying every fight.
Although Sparking Zero is set to be a worthy follow-up to the Budokai Tenkaichi series, the gameplay showcase has left a bit to be desired, leading the community to notice that one crucial element was missing from the action-packed footage.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Needs to Embrace the Sound Effects From Budokai Tenkaichi 3
Almost everything about Sparking Zero looks amazing, as it feels like a proper Budokai Tenkaichi installment that improves upon most of the aspects of the PS2 era series. There is a lot to look forward to, ranging from the upgraded visuals to the biggest character roster that these games have included yet.
Even the gameplay mechanics feel fluid, fast-paced, and polished, making every battle feel like it has been ripped straight out of the Dragon Ball anime, but fans have a gripe with Bandai Namco’s showcase.
A Dragon Ball fan took to the Tenkaichi 4 subreddit and pointed out that even though “the recent gameplay trailer was awesome,” they felt like it was “lacking” a major element, leading them to the conclusion that it was the “sound” in the battle footage that didn’t seem right.
Sparking Zero with Tenkaichi 3 Sound Effects is INSANE

The lack of sound effects from the Budokai Tenkaichi 3 era ended up failing to do justice to the gameplay that was being shown, resulting in it feeling dull and not as hard-hitting as Dragon Ball should.
Putting Budokai Tenkaichi 3 Sound Effects on Sparking Zero Footage Feels Right
Since the characters in Dragon Ball can “erase galaxies with minimal effort if they want to,” the sound effects that follow their brutal hits “should feel massive” as well, causing the Reddit user to incorporate the ones from Budokai Tenkaichi 3 into the SZ gameplay footage.
A major example of this is Goku’s signature power move, the Kamehameha, which used to have a unique sound effect as Kakarot got ready to unleash it on his opponents.
However, since Bandai Namco Entertainment has not yet shared an official release date, the developers could still be working on perfecting the sound design, so there should not be much to worry about.
Did you notice the lack of sound effects as well, or do you think this will not have much of an impact on SZ? Let us know in the comments!
