An Often Overlooked Fighting Game Feature Needs to Make a Comeback in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero that Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1 and Tekken 8 all Ignored

There should be a difficulty level based on character names.

SUMMARY

  • Dragon Ball games have characters which can clearly overpower others when used.
  • Other fighting games pretty much have characters having different abilities but are usually equal in strength.
  • As Sparking! Zero is on the horizon, players are hoping to see just a bunch of basic characters upon the launch.

We know that Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero comes with a heavy roster of 164 players, but fans must not forget that transformations are a part of that. Goku and Vegeta would collectively count for over 10 players in there, and we are not talking figuratively, or it would make them equal to thousands.

Most fighting games come with a complete character roster, except for those that require purchasing a bundle. That’s the modern-day story, as video games have gone microtransaction-heavy today. Old games would keep two or three of them concealed and release them as soon as the player had passed muster.

To Embrace Sparking Zero, Dragon Ball Fans Must Feel it

Struggle is real, but fun. Send a man to Mount Everest through a portal like the Ancient One did with Stephen Strange, and bring him back. He would embrace what he saw, but he wouldn’t be able to embrace what he missed. Mountain climbers who complete the trail know the struggle, and that feeling is unparalleled.

Fans of Dragon Ball understand this and hope to get into such a struggle as Sparking Zero makes its way to their screens. A conversation was sparked by a user on the social media platform Reddit regarding this. The user wants developers to allow players to use basic versions of the characters and not transformations like Super Saiyan, The Great Ape, and more.

Nothing like this has been featured in other fighting games like Mortal Kombat 1Street Fighter 6, or Tekken 8. Players can choose from any character they want during their fights. While there certainly is a narrative in the games that captivates users, they don’t really know the struggle or the craving for a certain character.

That Fight in Diabolo Desert Would Look Intense in The Game

Yamcha's Wolf Fang Fist is depicted to perfection in the game.

Goku might show up having already mastered the Ultra Instinct in the next Dragon Ball game, but then players will be kicking the can down the road. Maybe the devs need to bring Son Goku up against Yamcha’s Wolf Fang Fist technique to see the struggle. Though Yamcha wasn’t really a match for the little Saiyan initially, Goku wasn’t able to surpass the Gods of Destruction either.

Even popular games like FighterZ offer a full character roster, and players don’t really need to go through a certain story arc. Xenoverse and its sequel do have a story mode, but the latter is interesting given that players see new characters advancing the story in different arcs, unlike the predecessor.

It will be an experience of a lifetime for players, as they’ll be, in essence, watching the entire Dragon Ball saga. What’s interesting is that they would be able to give the fights the turns they always intended to while watching the anime.
