After the success of Dune 2 at the box office, the franchise has got the fans excited once again with the announcement of a new video game scheduled to be released soon. Titled Dune: Awakening, the game will be an online MMO where players will be able to build their bases and other survival elements that deem fit for the genre.

Furthermore, the creative director of the game, Joel Bylos, has revealed in an interview what sets the anticipated title apart from other online survival games. The developer talked about how players often tend to destroy the bases of other players in online survival titles and gave clarity on whether it will be an available mechanic or not in the coming game.

Creative Director Of Dune: Awakening Reveals If Players Will Be Able To Destroy Foreign Bases

As mentioned before, it is a recognized habit of griefers to destroy the bases of other players in any video game that allows them to. Revealing if players will be able to get rid of sandcastles that do not belong to them, Bylos via Wccftech said-

“One of the lines we have about Dune Awakening is that it’s not about kicking down other people’s sandcastles. So many of these survival games are about just killing someone else’s base where they’re offline and destroying their fun. Our game is about actually sending people out to fight over resources at specific locations. Bases are shielded. You can’t really destroy other people’s bases, especially in the PvE area. They’re fairly safe. And then we send you out into the deep desert. That’s where you can engage in chaos and fight over the big resource areas.”

The creative director disclosed how the objective of Dune: Awakening would be to obtain resources from specific locations and not to take away the fun of another player. He revealed how they will be shielded, preventing the destruction of any player’s sandcastle. If one still wishes to fight and cause chaos, they would need to head towards the deep desert in-game, where they can engage in battles with other players over resources.

Apart from blocking off the griefing features in the game, there are a lot of other interesting mechanics that the director has talked about. This includes being able to completely ignore the PvP elements of the game and just enjoying the PvE experience that Dune: Awakening promises to deliver.

Dune: Awakening Players Will Be Able To Solely Enjoy The PvE Experience Of The Game

Bylos has revealed how one can completely avoid confronting other players in a hostile manner if they wish to. Spaces and areas in the game will be marked if they allow PvP battles, but other ones will be marked with “Guild Peace“, indicating how players will not be able to harm each other there. There is a chance of Dune: Awakening becoming the next big game overtaking the hype train of Sony’s Helldivers 2.

Unfortunately, the ability to ride a sandworm will not be made available to players at the launch of Dune: Awakening as the studio has planned to develop the ability once the game is released. Working on such a feature according to the creative director is complicated, and would require much dedication to get around to make it look good in the game as good as shown in the movie directed by Denis Villeneuve.

More details about Dune: Awakening can be obtained from their official Steam page.
