“There’s different types of death penalties in Dune Awakening depending on how you die. The sandworm swallows you and everything you carry, so don’t get eaten by the sandworm.”

Bylos revealed that there are multiple maps in the game: a survival map, a deep desert map, and social hubs. The social map is expected to accommodate 200 players while the deep desert map might have 500 players and finally survival map might have 50 to 100 players, however, this number could change as the game is still in development.

All these maps will have their own Unreal server and will have different amounts of players. The focus is on the deep desert map or Arrakis as Bylos confirmed that the map will test the players to their limits.

In the interview, Bylos was asked about the game’s release date and he simply explained that they want the game to reach the fans whenever it’s fully ready.

“The best question. I would love to know. I don’t know. We don’t want to ship it till it’s ready. I don’t know how many of you have played Conan Exiles. We have a reputation for interesting ideas and some jank. I would prefer to get rid of the jank. I’d like to launch a game that’s really polished from Funcom. We’ve grown as a company. I think we can deliver a really polished survival experience. It’s a big IP. It’s really hot right now. When we took the IP in 2019, we just knew there’d be a film.”

Bylos added that they feel some pressure because of the movies and hope to fulfill the fantasies of all the fans with the video game. Dune: Awakening, being a survival MMO, will force fans to engage in combats with other players set in the Dune universe. The video game has created a lot of anticipation among the fans but as of now, there is no announcement regarding the game’s release date.
