Based on Frank Herbert’s epic sci-fi novel Dune, the eponymous movie franchise set in the distant future follows Paul Atreides from the noble family of House of Atreides has to fight in a war for the deadly and unwelcoming desert planet Arrakis.

The second part of this movie had its world premiere on February 15, 2024. Like the first movie, this one has won the hearts of critics. That being said, some of Villeneuve’s recent claims regarding the downfall of movies due to television.

In an interview with The Times of London, Denis Villeneuve said:

“Frankly, I hate dialogue. Dialogue is for theatre and television. I don’t remember movies because of a good line, I remember movies because of a strong image. I’m not interested in dialogue at all. Pure image and sound, that is the power of cinema, but it is something not obvious when you watch movies today. Movies have been corrupted by television.”

Everyone has their own opinion on things. Villeneuve believes that movies can do well without dialogue, but it cannot be denied that these dialogues form a major part of movies.

“Dune literally has lots of quotable lines…”

The fan has made a good point because the movie truly has some very iconic quotes such as:

“You fight when necessity arises, no matter the mood.” – Gurney Halleck

“A great man doesn’t seek to lead. He’s called to it.” – Duke Leto Atreides

“Fear is the mind-killer.” – Lady Jessica of Atreides

Here is what some other fans have said:

Many movies are remembered for their incredible quotes instead of the imagery they show. However, this varies from person to person as what one remembers might not be remembered by someone else so.

Dune: Part Two will hit the theatres on March 1, 2024.
