Luffy’s Gear 5 Has Two Different Forms

Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation in One Piece is his most powerful ability shown thus far in the narrative. Luffy has at last been serious about defeating Saturn and Kizaru as the stakes on Egghead keep getting higher. He has moved past his goofy and silly nature and has gotten angry and serious compared to his past Gear 5 transformations.

Luffy eventually seizes control of the fight against Saint Saturn and Admiral Kizaru in One Piece chapter 1108, growing in size to seize hold of both and announcing that he would not allow them to escape. During this panel, Eiichiro Oda drew Luffy looking enraged because Saturn and Kizaru tried to harm his friend Vegapunk.

Initially, when Luffy was having fun during his fights, it was seen that although he was powerful, he could not match up to the strength of Saturn. However, him grabbing both Saturn and Kizaru at the same time when he is serious proves that Luffy has two forms in Gear 5: One has a happy, silly side while the other is much more serious and enraged.

The Biggest Difference Between Luffy’s Gear 5 Two Forms

The difference between Luffy’s two forms during Gear 5 was seen during his battles with Admiral Kizaru. During their first fight in Egghead Island arc, when Luffy transforms into gear 5, he is seen having fun with Kizaru. The biggest example of this is when he throws Kizaru away during their first fight.

However, during their second fight when Kizaru launched an attack on Vegapunk, Luffy got angry and grabbed Kizaru and actually squeezed him so hard that the Admiral coughed up blood. This showed that Luffy when enraged can be much more lethal. And he did so while he was holding Saturn with his other hand.

Luffy’s battles with Kizaru show the difference between his two forms during Gear 5. While his happy Gear 5 form just wants to have fun during battle, his enraged self does not care about the fun and much rather directly attacks the opponent causing significant damage.
