Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter had been adapted into an anime twice, yet none of those times was the anime completed. The mangaka has been constantly suffering from back pain and had to take several extended vacations. Every time the fans buckled up for some hunter action, they were left disappointed due to Yoshihiro Togashi’s health conditions.

His previous magnum opus, Yu Yu Hakusho, also faced this problem, but Togashi sensei somehow managed to finish the story in a rushed manner. Unfortunately, Hunter x Hunter is so well written that it cannot have a rushed end. However, Yoshihiro Togashi considered the situation and prepared a backup, which could be used in case something unprecedented happened.

Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter is one of the most popular anime ever. It has a massive fan following, and all the fans are heartily praying for the mangaka’s speedy recovery. The manga has come to a halt after Togashi sensei’s severe back pain. Knowing that it might happen in the future, he had already set his plan B in motion, which includes a backup ending to his magnum opus.

During an interview, he revealed about his backup ending. Yoshihiro Togashi said,

“Still, that aside, I need to finish writing Hunter X Hunter. It has come to a point where either the story concludes first, or I die before that happens (lol). But I do intend to finish it. Although you can say that at one point in the story — where Gon meets Ging — I have completed the story once. I believe that some readers must have thought ‘Wasn’t that supposed to be the endgame?’ and I did write it to seem that way.”

Gon Freecs meeting his father, Ging Freecs, for the first time, is Togashi sensei’s backup ending. It is the point where the anime also went on a hiatus. It has been a decade since the last episode of Hunter x Hunter aired. So, the fans are starting to share the mangaka’s vision and consider it as an ending to the story. Moreover, Gon set out to become a hunter to meet his father.

Hunter x Hunter Might Never Conclude

Hunter x Hunter has a massive fanbase, but they are likely never to experience the conclusion of their favorite manga. The mangaka’s severe back pain is one of the many reasons for it. The manga abruptly halted on the journey to the Dark Continent. It was supposed to be one of the most fascinating arcs in the manga. However, due to the minute details, the arc cannot be rushed.

On top of that, Gon Freecs is unable to use Nen, and would need time to recover. The fans were overjoyed after knowing the mangaka was coming back, but it proved to be short-lived happiness. Just like he planned a backup ending, Yoshihiro Togashi also revealed four scenarios in which his magnum opus might end.

Even though he did not fully reveal all the scenarios, he explained one of them, and it was enough to light up the fans’ excitement. For the time being, Gon meeting his father, Ging, is the scene where Hunter x Hunter ended. If anyone is watching it for the first time, it might be a proper ending for them. But the hardcore Hunter x Hunter fans would love to see the original ending of the manga as well.
