There are many weapons in FromSoftware’s Elden Ring that the player can choose from to defeat enemies in the game. Many of these often turn out to be way too overpowered, causing them to become the center of many player’s builds.
There is also a great number of weapons out of these that not only deal physical damage but at the same time cause a build-up of effects such as poison and blood loss. Scarlet Rot is one such effect that the player can be affected by, and there are many different ways one can use to afflict the rot effect on their opponent.

7. Rotten Crystal Spear of Elden Ring
This weapon is unique in its manner. The spear allows the player to quickly cover the distance between them due to its design. However, its ash of war can not be changed and customized according to one’s wishes, and with only a build-up of 55 Scarlet Rot, this weapon has the lowest spot on the list.
6. Rotten Battle Hammer
Found in the Consecrated Snowfields, this item is a great hammer that does a fair amount of physical damage, but at the same time also gives the enemy a scarlet rot build-up of 65, making it lethal to fight against. It also scales primarily with strength and dexterity.
5. Scorpion’s Stinger
The reason why this particular weapon is being placed after the previous entries is because it is one of the most useful daggers in the game. While its status effect build-up only remains at 50, its high physical damage and the ability to dual-wield with another great dagger make it a great choice. It is also complemented by its repeating thrust Ash of War, making boss fights seem easier if the weapon is utilized properly.
4. Rotten Crystal Sword
As the name suggests, this particular weapon is the rotten version of the already-known Crystal Sword in Elden Ring. It can be found near the Haligtree and does a significant amount of physical and magic damage. Its build-up is only 50, but the weapon is redeemed by its Spinning Splash Ash of War.
3. Rotten Staff
The reason why this weapon is placed relatively high on this list is because of its high scarlet-rot buildup, amounting to 75. Along with the status effect, it is also a colossal weapon, which means despite heaving to level up strength as your prime focus, it is going to deal a lot of physical damage, making getting the weapon worth it.
2. Antspur Rapier
This weapon is one of the best weapons found in the whole of Elden Ring. Its scarlet-rot build-up makes a deadly combo along with the fast thrusting attacks of the item. The ability to change the Ash of War is also what makes Antspur Rapier a great choice, allowing the player to stack more than one status effect at a time.
1. Rotten Greataxe
Found in the Liturgical Town, Rotten Greataxe is one of the best colossal weapons available in Elden Ring. Not only does it offer a scarlet-rot build-up of 65, but also deals a great amount of physical damage at the same time. Not only that, but the player can also change the Ash of War on this weapon, making it so you can have more than one status effect on this weapon, which already does a great amount of physical damage.
Scarlet Rot is without a doubt the most annoying passive effect in the game due to how spontaneous it is and how much damage it deals to players and characters alike. Apart from a few bosses, like Malenia, Scarlet Rot-infused weapons should be easily able to make quick work of many enemies and bosses of Elden Ring, making them a desirable weapon.
