FromSoftware recently dropped an exciting new trailer for Elden Ring’s extremely anticipated upcoming DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree. The trailer gives a peek into the story, showing the characters and locations players will interact with. If the DLC lives up to the hype, it could be a game-changer, rivaling the likes of The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine in terms of sheer content.
According to the story trailer, the main focus is on a war in the Land of Shadow, led by Messmer, who unleashes his army on those living under the Erdtree. Miquella, a lesser-known character in the main game, takes center stage in this expansion.
How Big Is Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion?
FromSoftware has revealed that this expansion will be massive. While the base game is around 50 GB, the DLC alone is a hefty 60 GB, and around 70 hours long. This suggests a significant amount of new content, bringing the total to more than 100 GB. The DLC is set to release on June 21.

How big is this new area exactly? In an interview with IGN, director Hidetaka Miyazaki hinted that the Land of Shadow might be comparable in size to Limgrave from the base game, which is already pretty substantial. Shadow of the Erdtree will feature new bosses, weapons, and breathtaking locations.
Miyazaki has confirmed that the new area will follow the same design as the original game, including open fields, large legacy dungeons, and smaller dungeons. It’s been two years since the game’s launch and fans are eager for the expansion. Miyazaki has shared that this expansion is the largest DLC FromSoftware has ever created.
Blood and Wine Is Considered One of the Greatest Expansions Ever
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the most beloved games of all time, but its Blood and Wine expansion took things a step further and is widely considered one of the greatest expansions ever made. The expansion took players away to Toussaint, a land filled with bright colors and vineyards.
A stark contrast to the war-torn landscapes of the main game, Toussaint offered a vibrant, royal setting. Yet, beneath the surface the were dark secrets and monstrous threats, such as the vampires. While there was a sizeable new region to explore, its true strength lies in the quality of its content.
The main story is rich and engaging, featuring memorable new characters and a plot that unfolds with surprising twists. The expansion doesn’t skimp on side quests and armor-collecting activities either, offering some of the best side content in the entire game. The expansion wasn’t just about story and scenery. It also introduced new gameplay elements to keep things fresh.
Players gained access to powerful new mutations for Geralt, allowing for further customization of his combat style. The expansion also introduced Grandmaster Gear sets, which all looked absolutely amazing.
