Looking at what Hidetaka Miyazaki, the FromSoftware president, has had to say about the upcoming DLC, it sounds like the team has crafted something truly amazing that could rival the base game itself. And it wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened; there’s some amazing DLC out there that deserve just as much acclaim as their base games got.

From adding memorable bosses to giving players enough content to keep them busy for weeks, each of these DLCs have something unique and valuable that they contribute to their respective titles.

5. Elden Ring – Shadow of the Erdtree (yet to be released)

There’s no doubt for most of the Elden Ring community that the upcoming DLC is going to be a major game-changer. Let’s get to the facts; the DLC takes place in an entirely new area called the Land of Shadow. It’ll add a ton of new weapons and weapon skills, equipment, and magic.

And, of course, there’ll be plenty of new enemies and boss encounters. The expansion will trace Miquella’s footsteps into the Land of Shadow, where you’ll meet plenty of friends and foes alike. Miyazaki has said that this is FromSoftware’s biggest DLC, so you should save your PTO for this.

4. Monster Hunter World – Iceborne

This Monster Hunter World expansion breathed new life into a game that was already thriving. It is a massive expansion; by that, I mean the amount of new content that could’ve been more than the base game, almost.

When people recommend others to play World, you’ll often see that they said the DLC is a must, and that’s because of how amazing the Iceborne experience is. The base game essentially feels like a tutorial for the DLC. You get a lot of new monsters, weapon designs, and attacks, armor, and maps, just to name a few of the additions. It’s well worth the price.

3. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion – The Shivering Isles

This DLC for Oblivion is a favorite for many people who grew up with the game. It offered a surreal and otherworldly experience unlike anything seen in the main game, and it still holds up today.

You get to visit the realm of Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of Madness, and traverse across the bizarre landscapes of Mania and Dementia. The DLC added new eccentric characters, monsters, and quests to discover. It’s a short, 10-hour experience, and one that any RPG fan needs to experience.

2. Bloodborne – The Old Hunters

Is it fair to mention two FromSoftware games in a single list? Probably not, but I’m doing it anyway just because of how good this DLC is. Entering an entirely separate plane of existence, the Hunter’s Nightmare, players discover the reality of the Healing Church’s terrifying experiments.

They meet the disgraced, blood-drunk Hunters that have been trapped in this never-ending Hell. And, like the base game, this is a nightmare you must end, but not without putting up a fight. The haunting DLC adds many new weapons, areas, and bosses whose fights are more challenging than anything in the base game, but just as satisfying to take down.

1. The Witcher 3 – Blood and Wine

Where does one start with Blood and Wine? The final expansion for The Witcher 3, this DLC is probably the most popular example of how an expansion can match, or even surpass the main game in both scope and quality. You’re transported to the vibrant land of Toussaint, and from the moment you step foot into the land, everything feels different.

Just thinking about the visual contrast between Toussaint and The White Orchard is enough to give a person whiplash. Even Hearts of Stone, the other expansion for the game, has an amazing, chilling story with memorable characters who contain an immense amount of depth. The sheer amount of content that the Toussaint expansion adds, however, is simply unmatched.

You get a gigantic new area to explore that easily adds over 30 hours of content if you’re thorough. There are new monsters, mutations, treasures, quests, NPCs, and much more. It’s hard to overstate how much new stuff the expansion adds that matches the quality of the base game.

Do you agree with this list? What are some of your favorite DLCs? Let us know in the comments below!
