Elden Ring is a title hailed as one of the best to come out in recent times. Its gameplay, lore, and world make for an unbeatable combination. The game also does many things right and innovates in a subgenre that sticks to a stricter formula but still manages to prevent things from feeling redundant.

While mods are only essentially possible on PC, and other platforms have to stick to playing the game’s vanilla version, one mod is very promising for Elden Ring. This mod is titled The Convergence. The mod adds new content to the game and allows players to experience a whole facet of it that’s both built and empowered by its enthusiastic community.

With the launch of Shadow of the Erdtree imminent, The Convergence, if it continues to improve the way it has, could offer some competition to the upcoming expansion.

What Is The Convergence for Elden Ring?

Elden Ring is a title that is celebrated and one that has received acclaim from everybody.
Elden Ring is a title that’s celebrated and has received acclaim from many.

Elden Ring‘s The Convergence is a mod that offers new content to the players in the form of new weapons, spells, revamped areas, graphical enhancements, and more. Also, the update offers new bosses and enemies, which is fantastic because boss fights and engaging different enemies make Elden Ring a rich experience.

Those who’re already sold on the mod and want to try it out for themselves can check out its page on Nexus Mods here. Recently, the mod also received an update from the creator, who goes by AronTheBaron on Nexus Mods.

The new areas that the mod offers in the game form one of its most promising features. The latest addition to the list of newly added areas as part of the mod’s content is Lake of Rot. Perhaps one of the most challenging things about modding Elden Ring is that the game has a very rich lore. Also, the game’s art style makes it stand out among various other games in the Soulsborne subgenre by FromSoftware.

While other games’ mods usually add content that may or may not add to the game while being coherent with the game’s backdrop, The Convergence leaves no stone unturned to accomplish that feat. The team behind the mod took to X to tease some screenshots that are being appreciated.

As seen above, we can see a world with a red tint. The world also has ancient architecture and landscapes like hanging bridges. The world looks as grim as the setting of Elden Ring. Along with this, new screenshots from the mod even showcased new enemies coming to the game. One is the Scion of the Sealed God, which can be found here.

Elden Ring is going strong in terms of relevance and popularity and will only go stronger when the expansion for it releases.

Both snapshots of The Scion of the Sealed God model and the world shown in the screenshot look gorgeous. But still, the point of discussion is whether the mod can compete with Shadow of the Erdtree. For starters, Shadow of the Erdtree will be created by FromSoftware, and many of the same workforce that worked on the base game will come together again to create it. This means things will be seamless, coherent with the game’s lore, and available on every platform.

Also, apart from adding new quests, enemies, weapons, bosses, etc., it’ll feature a storyline connected to the previous game in the form of a sequel, a prequel, or a spinoff. Per speculation from the game’s concept art, the expansion will probably revolve around Miquella, which could make for a fascinating avenue to explore.

On the flip side, the longer the expansion is in development, the more hype will be built around it and the higher the expectations will be from it. If FromSoftware can’t live up to expectations and deliver on the hype, things won’t turn out well. This will mainly be bad if people like The Convergence better than Shadow of the Erdtree.

Did you install The Convergence if you’re playing on a PC? Even if not, do you think the mod has the potential to knock it out of the park and defeat an official expansion? Let us know in the comment section.
