Five Nights at Freddy’s was one of the most awaited video game adaptations for a long while now and with Emma Tammi’s direction, fans are loving it more so. Despite the somewhat mediocre critics’ score, fans have gone absolutely bonkers over the film, giving it all the love and support it had been hoping to get in the first place.
Although the movie’s budget was rather low compared to some of the biggest blockbusters, it would seem that no one really went empty-handed or disappointed. There are many actors and directors who often take smaller pays upfront, expecting the movies to be big successes and manage to earn a big sum with back-end earnings alone. This includes actors like Kevin Hart as well. However, the newest celebrity to benefit from the same was Emma Tammi.
Emma Tammi Hit a Jackpot
Emma Tammi, the director of Five Nights at Freddy’s reportedly earned a total of $500,000 upfront for the movie. Although that may not sound like a lot, things for her were only beginning to grow from then on. Having a budget of only $20 Million (via Collider), there was not much when it came to the salaries of the actors and people involved in the film. However, Tammi had struck a deal that would make her upfront salary look like nothing.
As per her deal, according to Puck News, Tammi is set to earn a percentage of how much the movie makes at the box office. So far the film is seen as a hit and fans have been showering it with unconditional love. Having already made $136 Million (via Box Office Mojo), it can easily be said that she too will be taking millions with her on top of the $500,000 cheque. There are many celebrities who use a similar method to remove the burden of a big budget from studios’ heads, later profiting from their roles in the most iconic manner. So here are five other celebrities who earned big thanks for the deals they struck.
Sandra Bullock
For her role in Gravity, Sandra Bullock took home $20 Million as an upfront salary. However, that was only a small percentage of the massive sum she actually earned. As per her deal. according to The Hollywood Reporter, Bullock’s backend sum would include 15% of what the movie earned, enabling her to take home above $70 Million for a singular role. Gravity in itself earned $723 Million worldwide.
George Clooney
According to Cosmopolitan, George Clooney’s upfront salary for Gravity had been the same as that of Sandra Bullock, that is, $20 Million. Although her backend payout was towering in a sense no one would have expected, Clooney too gained a good profit from the film. His total payout from the film had been $34 Million, meaning that he took home $14 Million above his discussed amount due to the deal.
Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise remains to be one of the highest-paid actors of all time and his deal during Top Gun: Maverick made it clear that if there is someone who can earn big, it is him. The actor took only a small sum of $13 Million as his upfront salary for the film. However, as per Screen Rant, his backend payout far exceeds anything fans could expect. The actor ended up taking home over $100 Million because of how hugely successful the film had been. The sequel ended up earning $1.4 Billion worldwide (via Box Office Mojo)
Keanu Reeves
Keanu Reeves is no stranger to big movies. From John Wick to The Matrix, he has indulged in all sorts of genres that benefit his career the best. For his role in the latter, the actor got $10 Million as an upfront salary. On top of that, he made a total of $35 Million. This means that his profit from the hit film was over double what he had initially earned. Getting a backend sum of the film’s total box office earnings got him $25 Million more. (via Style Caster)
Harrison Ford
Harrison Ford has been a part of some of the most iconic franchises but none shine with his name the way Indiana Jones does. For the fourth movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the actor earned a total of $65 Million. This was a massive amount of money he was only able to get following the success of the film despite critics’ reviews. The actor earned a backend sum thanks to his deal which benefited him in such a way that he was able to push out of retirement with ease. (via Screen Rant)
