Video game adaptations have been all the rage in recent years, following successes like The Last of Us and Fallout. So, it was only a matter of time before Fortnite joined the conversation. Therefore, a Fortnite movie seems like a natural next step to keep fans happy. However, fans believe that leading such a project in the correct way would require someone like Donald Mustard. Yet, his stepping down from his position and exiting Epic Games complicates the situation further.
Is a Fortnite Movie on the Horizon?
The Fortnite movie discussion has been swirling in the air for quite some time now. In a recent conversation with Games Radar at the Sands International Film Festival in St Andrews, Scotland, he revealed that while he doesn’t see a Fortnite movie happening in the near future, he’s keenly aware of what the fans would love to see. Mustard said,
“If there ever was a Fortnite movie, I know exactly how I would make it. I think I would make the best version of that. But we’re not. Even back then [when Mustard was at Epic Games], there were never actual plans to make a Fortnite movie and I don’t anticipate that changing anytime soon.I think Fortnite as an experience is very unique to the medium it’s in right now and I know that. So, I don’t think there will be a Fortnite movie at least not anytime soon, but I think people would love it.”
Speaking of finding a trustworthy pair of eyeballs to oversee the project and steer the ship in the right direction, he said,
“I haven’t talked to Zack Snyder specifically about it… but I would want to do it.”
And Mustard, in fact, would be the perfect person for the job. While nothing is certain at the moment, fans are certainly hopeful that Epic will change their mind pretty soon.
Fans Rally for Donald Mustard to Lead Fortnite Movie Despite His Exit from Epic Games!
It’s no secret that cases like The Last of Us are pretty rare when it comes to successful video game adaptions on screen. Instances like The Resident Evil are much more common. Therefore, he made the tough decision to step down and channel his focus into a secret, undisclosed project. Could that secret project be a Fortnite movie? Fans can only guess. Mustard wasn't the great storyteller that everyone praise these days. Lot of flaws his story had. But at least, there was a story there.
