Kevin Feige found fame when he stepped up and took charge of Marvel Studios. Taking the reins of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in his hands, Feige made several ramifications to the cinematic universe but some of his decisions were overrun.
With allegations of greed and Marvel Studios shoving series after series on Disney+ during the release of Avengers: Endgame, three movies suffered because of it. With underpaid VFX workers and overtime artists at hand, the MCU found much controversy because of it.
The VFX Fiasco At Kevin Feige’s Marvel
Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe emerged with breakthroughs in CGI and visual effects for their movies, the artists were placed under a lot of pressure for a timely delivery of their work. The recently released book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios narrates a tale of underpaid workers, industry secrets, and how Marvel made the VFX for its movies!
It all started when Marvel Studios decided to work on its streaming series. With the release of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios was all geared up for its next phase. As per the book, VFX companies would bid to work with Marvel and the company would pick the one with the lowest pricing. An excerpt from the book stated how Marvel and the VFX companies would form a deal.
“Companies bidding on the workaday jobs had to estimate how much time and labor would be required to create a shot of two heroes fighting a robot with tentacles. Marvel would probably would take the lowest bid, so houses that wanted to stay busy had to determine just how small they could afford to make their margins”
With additional series and movies in the works, this led to the animators working overtime and often being underpaid for their work. In the book, three movies were named which were allegedly affected by this VFX fiasco. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, and, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Marvel Studios Revolutionized The VFX Industry
Dan Deleeuw was the visual effect supervisor known for working in several Marvel movies. As per the book, Deleeuw believes that working with Josh Brolin’s Thanos was indeed quite a challenge for the VFX department.
“We knew he [Josh Brolin] would have to carry the film. He has more screen time than the Avengers. The audience had to belive and sympathize with him until he did the horrible thing that made you hate him forever when all your heroes disappear at the end”
Well, Marvel Studios has indeed revolutionized the VFX industry but at the cost of some controversies over the years. Marvel President Kevin Feige is working tirelessly to bring some chaos into the realm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
