Since its release, Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 has been a popular game among the gaming community. However, some players now believe that its hype is slowly dying. There have been several debates on social media as many players defended the game, claiming that it has been only three months since Helldivers 2‘s release on Windows and PlayStation.
Like every popular game, there was a sudden surge in the number of players, but slowly the hype faded away. In this case, it would be unfair to say that Helldivers 2 is dead, as the loyal fanbase is here to stay. The Helldivers 2 subreddit believes that some players’ constant demotivation has slowed down the game.
Is Helldivers 2‘s hype slowly dying?
As per SteamCharts, in March 2024, the average player count for Helldivers 2 was just over 217,000, and in April 2024, the number dropped down to roughly 142,800. It is quite evident that Helldivers 2 is slowly losing its fanbase, but does that mean the game is dying? No. Since its release, Helldivers 2 has successfully built a loyal fanbase. Even if everyone (who hopped on the bandwagon) uninstalled the game, Helldivers 2 would still have a significant number of active players.
I don’t believe the games dying.

Recently, a Reddit post on the r/Helldivers2 subreddit acknowledged this concern, sparking a debate among the community.
This is just good news for hardcore fans as there have been multiple scenarios where the Helldivers 2 community has failed a Major Order due to miscommunication. Losing some part of the fanbase was bound to happen as the game’s difficulty is not for everyone.
Arrowhead will never pull the plug on Helldivers 2
Even if Helldivers 2‘s hype dies, Arrowhead Game Studios will not stop rolling out updates and this can be confirmed by the existence of Helldivers (2015). Even after 9 years, some players still play the game. There have been many complaints related to weapons/Stratagems in Helldivers 2 but fans are asking the community to be patient as whining or complaining about it will only demotivate the developers.
With Johan Pilestedt stepping down as the CEO and taking the role of Chief Creative Officer, he will now be more involved in the game. The studios have big plans for the game, particularly the third faction called the Illuminate. Fans just need to be patient as it’s been only three months since the game’s release.
Helldivers 2 is available on Windows and PlayStation 5.
