After a significantly long delay, Stellar Blade is finally prepping to hit the PlayStation consoles on April 26, 2024. The upcoming action-adventure game developed by Shift Up marks the first console game of the studio which is well-known for its mobile games.
Apart from the controversies surrounding the game, Shift Up has been leaving no stone unturned to create hype around the game. This includes sharing key insights on the development of Stellar Blade. Earlier, the developers had shared a BTS video on how Stellar Blade was conceptualized as a PS5-exclusive title.
Now they have shared a new YouTube video that takes players through the designing process of the gameplay experience.
Deadliest boss in Stellar Blade
In the latest 9-minute-long BTS clip released by Shift Up, the team revealed how the combat system of the upcoming game was designed. The developers stated that there was this one boss in the game, named Abaddon in Stellar Blade, who inspired them to design the compact system.
Being called one of the deadliest bosses in Stellar Blade, Abaddon challenged the development team. The developers shared how the boss gave them a really hard time to beat. But the challenge also helped them design a satisfying combat system.
The Abaddon boss in Stellar Blade is in fact the first proper boss fight that players will face after the tutorial. Abaddon is a giant Alpha Naytiba straddled on the parking lot. The boss uses lightning and electrical powers to players you on your toes.
The fight with Abaddon is one of those fights where the aggressive strategy could prove fatal. Going in aggressively against Abaddon could result in disaster, and thus it is advisable to play defensively keeping the focus on counterattacks.
How did Abaddon influence the game’s combat system?
In the behind-the-scenes video, the developers revealed in detail about the Abaddon boss fight and how it actually helped them design the combat systems in the game. They shared,
“There is a monster called Abaddon that players will meet early on in the game. Everyone in the studio had a competition to see who could defeat this boss first. From that moment, all of us understood how to design the combat system of Stellar Blade.”
A similar emotion was showcased in the Stellar Blade demo wherein it was realized that Abaddon was a tough boss to fight. Players need to have the right amount of skills, patience as well as movement tactics to beat this boss.
That being said, the fight with Abaddon is not too difficult. A lot of the skills and techniques of the fight depend on the learning curve of players, which also happens to be the core of the game’s combat system.
