During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Waddingham discussed reprising her role as Rebecca Welton in a spinoff. The actress stated her one condition to reprise her role, saying that she would only return if Jason Sudeikis came back as Ted Lasso.
“Everyone keeps asking this, but no, there’s been no word of a spinoff at all, and I have made it quite clear that unless Ted was in it… I can’t imagine really a world where Rebecca exists without Ted because they are each other’s inspiration.”
Both Ted and Rebecca have been in the series since the first season, and the Hocus Pocus 2 actress finds their characters to be profoundly interconnected. Her statement could come as disappointing to fans as it leaves the fate of the show uncertain as they eagerly wait for its return.

Jason Sudeikis On Returning as Ted Lasso
The Emmy-winning actor Jason Sudeikis has addressed questions surrounding the show’s future in an interview with Deadline. He has shared that although it was the end of the story that they planned, he couldn’t share much about the potential future of the show.
He said, “If I knew, I wouldn’t tell you.” However, he has also shared that there are opportunities to expand the story with the show’s existing characters. “Yeah, there’s opportunities, I think, for spinoffs,” he said on the Fly on the Wall podcast.
Hannah Waddingham seems to suggest that she is not interested in reprising her role as Rebecca until Jason Sudeikis returns as Ted Lasso. With uncertainty about Sudeikis return, the potential spin-off could be based on other major characters from the series, as Apple TV+’s official Twitter account seemingly suggested in an earlier tweet.
