As Elden Ring’s expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree wraps up its final stages of development, we’re likely to hear soon FromSoftware about what to expect when to take a leave from work and everything that goes into pouring more hours into the game.

Until then, however, there has been a strange silence (officially speaking) that has been driving the community a bit crazy. So much so that an ‘update’ that just arrived for a player almost gave the community a heart attack. Hopefully, just metaphorically.

The 29.7 GB update for the game caught the player off guard

Elden Ring hype
Looks like fans are facing mental challenges even outside the game.

Just a little while ago, user No-Orange5376 decided to play Elden Ring. In the process of running the game, the application prompted them with a massive update. As we’re all aware, FromSoftware players are always a bit weary of dangerous environments, and this was no exception. In fact, the perceived threat here was in the form of an update that might have been the DLC according to the player.

The post on Reddit has been going viral, with 3.7k upvotes within 15 hours. Of course, this is no actual update, just the process of installing the game. However, fans have been so eager about the actual DLC that any kind of notification or update file tends to put them on the edge. The comments are nothing but representations of this:

I don’t like this much of a foreplay

User darthmikda expresses their heartfelt feelings.

This is one of the many comments on the post, ranging from subtle mockery for the player to instilling faith that we’ll soon hear from FromSoftware. Hopefully. The last actual update for the game had a bit to do with anti-cheat, but that was about it. Ever since players haven’t really received an impactful update for Elden Ring.

When are fans actually getting news about Elden Ring’s DLC?

Elden Ring hype for DLC
Elden Ring’s expansion will take players on new journeys.

At the time of writing, there’s no official date around this information. However, the community has been speculating that the news for the same should be coming soon, at least around February. After all, this was the timeframe last year when Shadow of the Erdtree was officially announced. So, it makes sense to set our expectations accordingly.

However, the bittersweet part of this equation lies in the fact that it’ll likely be around 2025 when we actually get to play the DLC. Until then, older fans will have to find new ways of enjoying Elden Ring (which isn’t tough, to be honest) and new players will have a welcoming chance at getting involved in one of the biggest RPGs we’ve had in our time.

Shadow of the Erdtree will likely be almost half the size of the campaign, giving players around 20 additional hours to explore new weapons, characters, story arcs, and everything else that makes Elden Ring so rich. Furthermore, the world-building will take players on a journey that might explore the Land Between’s past in more detail.

Even though the Reddit post has little to do with the actual DLC, the hype is clearly reflective of the community’s love for the game and everything related to it. What would your reaction to something like this be? Let us know in the comments below.
