For months speculation has been raging on about the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton. After undergoing a scheduled abdominal surgery in mid-January, the Princess has hardly been spotted in public, leading to numerous conspiracy theories and speculations about her, the crown, and the royal family.
These speculations apparently led to the royal family or rather Middleton herself to reportedly release a photograph, wishing a happy Mother’s Day on their official social media account. Yet instead of quenching the rumors and speculations, the photo started numerous other rumors since the sweet photo appears to be edited. And here is everything that experts found was wrong with it.
Kate Middleton’s Sweet Social Media Post Kicks Off A New Wave Of Rumors
The Royal family holds as much influence now as it did years back and social media has turned out to be one way how their subjects and fans stay connected with them. After months of disappearance, Kate Middleton‘s last public appearance after her surgery was in March (via GMA), leading to conspiracy theories about her months-long disappearance.
And what was supposed to be a sweet Mother’s Day message and a way to put an end to all the rumors and speculations, Middleton’s X post gave birth to several other conspiracies. The sweet photo features Middleton sitting with her three kids, Prince Louis, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte in Windsor.
Not only netizens found it to be heavily edited but even news agencies like Associated Press, Getty Images, and Reuters removed the photograph for apparently not meeting their standards and being edited (via ABC News). While Kensington Palace stated it will not be going forth to reissue an unedited version, the Princess of Wales herself clarified in another X post:
Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C

Apparently having edited the photograph herself, Middleton’s apology statement was not taken well by fans, many of whom refused to believe that a member of the royal family, who would soon be Queen would make this mistake.
Everything Wrong With Kate Middleton’s Mother’s Day Photograph
While the speculation regarding the photo rages on, numerous experts and even netizens have found things that were wrong with the photograph shared by Kate Middleton. From not wearing her wedding ring to the floor, here is what experts found was wrong with the image (via Vox, ABC News, NY Times):
- Although not appearing to be an AI-generated photo, the image rather looks more like a lose case of minor photo editing.
- Princess Charlotte’s left hand looks unaligned and inconsistent as the red sleeve of the sweater she is wearing looks like it was digitally cropped.
- Even the hair falling on her right shoulder looks like it has an artificial pattern, a clear result of editing.
- Princess Kate’s zipper and hair are unaligned and look as if it was edited or an object was erased.
- The edges of tiles near Prince Louis’ feet look repeated and experts reckon it might be because of Photoshop’s clone stamp tool which copies a part of an image and then pastes it on another.
- A similar error is seen behind the knees of Prince Louis’ where the edges of the doorway look misaligned.
- On the left side of the image, not only does Middleton’s hand around her younger soon look excessively blurry but the young Prince’s sweater pattern also looks mismatched around the shoulders.
- Middleton is also not wearing her wedding ring, leading to fans speculate her hands might be edited in and might not be her hands at all.
- Even Middleton’s face looks edited in for her hair on the right side looks blurry with no shadow around her ear despite it being close to Prince George’s arm.
- Middleton and Charlotte’s eyes also look clearer than her other children’s, which seems odd since all of them are sitting in the same location.
In conclusion, whether the photo was edited or not, it does not change the fact that the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton is human and deserves privacy and respect. And it would be better for fans and netizens to accept her statement and move on since she appears to be still recovering from her surgery.
