Before Bethesda acquired Fallout and handed the development over to Todd Howard, the world was already a wonderful place in dystopia. In some way, it had gotten a great deal on a silver platter. Recently, the franchise received a live-action TV adaptation, which has been met with generally favorable reviews, sighing relief to the dubious fan base.
A plethora of interesting Easter eggs have been hidden in the latest TV show, which could easily blow fans’ minds. Fans on the internet are still busy finding more of them. The world they knew remained wasted as they left it in the video games. Bethesda appears to have pulled it straight out of them for the American TV series.
Fans Aren’t Happy About Todd Howard Overshadowing Original Creators
As good as the franchise is, Bethesda should be praised for having purchased it. Cinephiles must be feasting their eyes on the latest TV show based on the popular video games, but many who have never played the game might be strangers to an important fact. It isn’t Bethesda’s product. Some fans seem to remember it well.
Indigo Gaming, a social media account on X (formerly Twitter), jogged memories of people that Bethesda had very little to do with Fallout.
Brotherhood of Steel, the Enclave, dogmeat, ghouls, radscorpions, iconic 10mm pistol, power armor, Vault Boy, Vault-Tec, Nuka Cola, overseer, vault suits, raiders, Shady Sands…
…all written by 1998.
Bethesda created very little of what the Fallout show referenced.

It even mentioned the core elements of the game that entered the franchise way before it was sent under the care of Todd Howard.

The user isn’t alone in this; another user dubbed Joel Farrelly made a similar post in December 2023 expressing his frustration over the credits shown in the trailer.
PSA: Tim Cain created Fallout. Not alone but it was his vision and you know who WASN'T there when they made the first game? Todd Howard.
Which is why seeing THIS in the trailer for the upcoming Fallout TV series was frustrating on an almost existential level… @falloutonprime pic.twitter.com/NYkY3qZVJ7

Fans sure do love the original creators of the game. Users commenting on Indigo Gaming’s post appear to have resonated with the feelings.
So Where Was This Post-Apocalyptic Dream Manufactured in the First Place?
1997 saw the first game in the series come to fruition. Created by Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky at Interplay, it is said to be the spiritual successor of 1988’s Wasteland. It tells the story of a nuclear age where The Great War turned everything into radioactive dust, leaving the planet’s inhabitants surviving in a dystopia.
Brian Fargo, Interplay’s founder, played a pivotal role in its development. His love for a dystopian future and not being able to buy back the rights to Wasteland from Electronic Arts opened the room for Fallout. The latest available data indicates that the franchise has sold over 55 million copies globally.
There have been debates in the past with concerns central to the conversations surrounding Bethesda ruining the games. However, that isn’t the case. In fact, it was reported that the game’s sales have shot up in Europe, with Fallout 4 topping the charts. As of now, there’s no news surrounding the next mainline game, so fans will have to feast their eyes on the TV show for now.
