Fallout is the hot new thing when it comes to video game adaptations of recent times. Based on the highly popular video game franchise of the same name, the series has been breaking records for how it adapted the lore and created a world almost as perfect as the video games. Yet ever since the series’ release, many have been bugged about as to how the series fits into the lore and timeline of the video games. Clearing the confusion in a recent interview, Bethesda Game Studios’s Todd Howard’s revelation has caused a stir among fans.
Fallout Is Part of the Lore, Confirms Bethesda Game Studios’s Director
Since the release of Fallout, many have been wondering whether the series is part of the canon or not. While often video game adaptations adapt existing storylines and narratives from the game, Fallout adapts the aesthetics but keeps the story fresh and original.
Based on the infamous vaults and the nuclear wastelands, the video games have the same history as us, but things changed after World War 2, leading to the creation of a post-apocalyptic world. As confirmed by Todd Howard, the Director of Bethesda Game Studios, the series is also set in the same world and is part of the official canon.
Set up in the year 2296, the events of the series take years ahead of the timeline in the video games. Part of the lore, the series also touches upon the fate of the first capital of the New California Republic, Shady Sands.
And it was the showrunners, Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who originally came up with the idea, wanting to create a series that would aid in the development of the game instead of retelling the same story (via IGN).
Fans React To Fallout Being Part of the Canon
Creating a consistent universe across different platforms is hard, especially when it comes to video games. Not all fans would be happy to have a video game adaptation being part of the canon and drive up the story further. Yet fans of the hit video game have been embracing that season one of the series is part of the official canon.

After the incredible success that Fallout season one has received, season two of the series is yet to be announced. Although fans are eagerly awaiting a potential season two, it would be worth the wait if the next season is as good as Fallout season one.
