An X user @DudeOnly767 shared a picture of him holding a PlayStation 5 copy of Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth in their car on February 25, 2024. The official launch of the game is slated for February 29, 2024, so this fan has gotten their copy four days early! While this is just one instance that has been shared on social media, it stands to reason there will be plenty more.

So, people eager to experience the new Final Fantasy would do well to avoid forums and sites where discussions happen. When another user asked if they should mute the channels, the OP who posted the photo said they don’t post spoilers. However, we can’t expect the same level of mindfulness from everyone. Especially when people are eager to share the new story and many others who don’t care about spoilers would welcome such info drops.

Games making their way to consumers well before the intended release date is not a new phenomenon. Both online stores and traditional retail outlets have messed up by letting some of the stock be sold to fans.

Even pre-orders are sometimes shipped out early and reduce wait times for players. Some may say it is also planned by the company to let this happen to a certain extent, as a way to increase pre-orders and sales.

Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth has been Long Awaited by Fans of the Series

Rebirth is slated to be a stand-alone experience for fans of the series and newcomers.
Rebirth is slated to be a stand-alone experience for fans of the series and newcomers.

The game is a sequel to the hugely popular Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Released in 2020, the game recreates the story and gameplay of the original title which was released back in 1997 on the PlayStation. Rebirth is intended as a stand-alone sequel for fans of the series and newcomers, and the second part in what will be a trilogy for Final Fantasy 7.

Players will once again take control of Cloud Strife and journey through a reimagined Midgar. Final Fantasy 7 Remake was revamped from the ground up, featuring next-gen graphics and gameplay. Rebirth will utilize many of the same mechanics to advance the story from Remake.

So, while it may be tempting to explore the subreddits and forums, be warned you may encounter spoilers. If you are one of the lucky ones to get your copy early, be mindful of what you post online!
