All of Us Strangers stars Andrew Scott as a lonely screenwriter living alone, who ends up falling for his mysterious neighbor played by Paul Mescal. As one thing leads to another, Scott discovers his dead parents alive, living at his childhood home the way they were 30 years before. The movie stars Fantastic Four star Jamie Bell as Scott’s on-screen father.

While he knew the movie was going to be a real tear-jerker, he had a fun time shooting the movie with his 10-year older co-star Scott aka his on-screen son and actress Claire Foy, who plays his wife. While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, he remarked,

“He’s such an easy person to love, she’s a phenomenal actress. Weirdly off set we were kind of also still a family; we shot at Andrew Haigh’s childhood home and would go next door to another house that was the holding room, and me and Claire would watch the tennis, because Wimbledon was on, and [Scott] would disappear upstairs like a teenager.”

Despite the movie being a heart-wrenching romantic fantasy, the actors managed to have fun, almost feeling like a real family.

“I thought it was really one of the most extraordinary scripts I’d ever read. Truly heartbreaking. I was really in bits after reading the script and the finished movie really doesn’t differ too much from the original script.”

Scott added that the movie is more emotional than sad and that it is audacious and touching at the same time. Meanwhile, his co-star Bell echoed the same thoughts, claiming the movie is a ‘nuclear-grade tear-jerker’.

All of Us Strangers will hit theatres on December 22, 2023.
