Barbie’s Chevrolet Ad resurfaced the Star Wars trilogy perfectly placed product ad
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is one of the biggest movies that came out in 2023 and the audience witnessed some of the most eye-opening promotional tactics used by the studios for the movie. One such was how the movie masterfully managed to disguise Chevrolet cars, which became an integral part of her adventures.
The movie included 1956’s Chevy Corvette C1, Chevrolet Suburban & 2024 Chevrolet Blazer SS EV. Eagle-eyed fans noticed how a 30-second clip was released ahead of the release of the movie in which Barbie gets a ride in the Blazer which fans stated looks like a car commercial. While some criticized the clip, others appreciated the smart move by the studios to not only promote a product but also generate anticipation for the movie.
This however led to an X user reminding the audience that Star Wars is still going to be the number one when it comes to product placement for an advertisement. According to the user, when the Star Wars Trilogy started to air in Chile in 2003, to avoid the interruptions in-between between commercials, a montage was made and inserted in the movie to promote Cristal beer.
A report by Bullfrag explains the montage of the beer advertisement in the middle of the scene to make it look like the product was part of the film. The commercial was a part of the series The Force is with Crystal Beer and features Emperor Palpatine and Luke Skywalker played by Mark Hamill enjoying a beer. The people of Chile received praise for their creativity after the clip went viral and was brought to the audience’s attention.
Star Wars actor Hayden Christensen was surprised to land the role of Anakin Skywalker
In an interview with Empire Magazine, actor Hayden Christensen who played Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars: Attack of the Clones & The Revenge of the Sith shared that he was surprised when he landed the role. He said,
“I had heard that they’d met with Leonardo and a bunch of other actors. That just confirmed my thought that the role would go to another actor. Through the entire auditioning process I had told myself, from day one, that I wasn’t going to get the part. It just wasn’t possibility. And I think that probably helped me a lot, because it just freed me up in a lot of ways. And so it really came as a surprise to me when I got the part.”
The actor also mentioned that the character was at the time criticized along with his performance and the part adding that he felt like he had some context that helped a little bit. Hayden Christensen added that he didn’t understand the disconnect between the movie that he saw and the negativity in some of the reviews after he watched Episode I.
He noted that according to him, some of the criticism comes from a certain failure of their suspension of disbelief. Hayden Christensen reprised his role in Star Wars television series including Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka noting that it was not on his bucket-list item.
Ahsoka, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Star Wars Trilogy are streaming on Disney+.
